Victory Games

Victory Games, briefly known as BioWare Victory, is a former video game development studio owned by Electronic Arts. Founded in 2010, the studio has teams based in Los Angeles, California, Austin, Texas, and Shanghai, China. Its creation was primarily driven by Electronic Arts’ desire to continue developing the Command & Conquer strategy game franchise.

Victory Games was established following a reorganisation of EA Los Angeles. When the team responsible for the Medal of Honour series adopted the name Danger Close Games, Electronic Arts formed a new team to focus on strategy games and, more specifically, on the future of Command & Conquer. The new studio was headed by Jon Van Caneghem, creator of the Might and Magic series and former head of Trion Worlds.

In December 2011, Electronic Arts announced that Victory Games would be incorporated into the BioWare label. For a short period, the studio was thus renamed BioWare Victory, before reverting to its original name.

At the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards, Electronic Arts officially unveiled Command & Conquer: Generals 2, the sequel to the strategy game Command & Conquer: Generals released in 2003. Developed exclusively for PC, the game utilised DICE’s Frostbite 2 graphics engine and was originally scheduled for release in 2013.

However, the project underwent significant changes during its development. Generals 2 was ultimately transformed into a free-to-play online game simply titled Command & Conquer. It was intended to feature several factions and incorporate the key real-time strategy mechanics characteristic of the franchise.

Following various testing phases, Electronic Arts finally announced the cancellation of Command & Conquer at the end of October 2013. At the same time, Victory Games was shut down, bringing the project’s development to an abrupt end. This decision, which came whilst the game was already playable by some testers, marked yet another interruption in the history of the Command & Conquer franchise.
