Status: Deceased, killed by Kane.Louise James is a GDI Colonel who became one of Kane’s most determined adversaries. Born into a military family, she lost her husband and son during the Scrin invasion of 2047. Holding Kane responsible for the disaster, she refuses to trust him when the GDI allies with Nod to build the Tiberium Control Network (TCN).

A personal hatred of Kane

James’s father was a hero of the First Tiberium War. Following in his footsteps, she joined the GDI and gradually rose through the ranks, distinguishing herself in particular during the Third Tiberium War.

However, the Scrin invasion turned her life upside down: her husband and son were among the first victims. James holds Kane directly responsible, as he deliberately provoked the arrival of the aliens to further his own agenda.

When, in 2062, Kane proposed a partnership with the GDI to control the spread of Tiberium using the TCN, James reluctantly accepted this new alliance. For fifteen years, she waited for an opportunity to prove that the Prophet was, in fact, pursuing his own agenda.

Commander Parker

In 2077, James commands the GST Tzadik, with Commander Parker among her officers.

She remains extremely hostile towards Nod and opposes any operations that would allow Kane to take control of the various TCN nodes. When Kane personally approaches Parker and attempts to win him over to his cause, James urges the Commander to remain loyal to the GDI.

Parker’s choice then determines his role in the events: he can continue to serve under James’s command or join Kane.

Rebellion against the GDI

James’s suspicions grow when she discovers that Kane is seeking to synchronise the TCN nodes with the latest Scrin Threshold Tower. She concludes that he may be preparing for the return of the aliens.

She attempts to warn the GDI leadership, notably Evelyn Rios and Wesley Riggs, but they refuse to heed her warnings. Convinced that Kane poses too great a threat to wait any longer, James finally breaks with her own chain of command and imposes martial law in New Adana.

She thus becomes the leader of a dissident faction of the GDI, turning the crisis into a full-blown civil war.

Her forces are eventually defeated and James is arrested along with her crew, then imprisoned in a GDI Supermax prison. She nevertheless manages to escape and immediately resumes her campaign against Kane.

Secret alliance with Gideon

James’s determination to eliminate Kane leads her to a particularly radical decision: to collaborate secretly with Gideon, leader of the Nod Separatists.

The two characters detest one another ideologically, but share the same objective. James wants to avenge her family and prevent Kane from using the Scrin Tower, whilst Gideon regards his former prophet as a traitor.

James goes so far as to hand over Dr Johann Pascal to Gideon in exchange for his help against Kane. The Separatist then assassinates Pascal, thereby helping to eliminate the Carryalls necessary for the Ascension plan.

The war ultimately leads all factions to Threshold 19, the last Scrin Tower.

James leads his forces there in a final attempt to prevent the Portal from being activated. Whichever faction Parker had previously chosen, it ends up firing on him after the Tower is activated.

In the climax, Kane intervenes personally. James fails to prevent the Ascension: Kane kills her by strangling her, then steps through the Threshold 19 Portal with his followers.

Personality

Louise James is an experienced, stubborn soldier who is deeply distrustful of Kane. Her hatred has a very personal dimension: the death of her husband and son during the Scrin invasion turns her opposition to Nod into a veritable obsession.

Her suspicions regarding Kane are not entirely unfounded, as he does indeed use the TCN to achieve his Ascension. But her determination gradually leads her to cross every line: disobedience, rebellion against the GDI and a clandestine alliance with Gideon. She thus ends up fighting both Nod and her own organisation.
