Status: Deceased, killed by C.A.B.A.L.Marzaq is a high-ranking general of the Brotherhood of Nod and one of the most powerful members of the Inner Circle following the Second Tiberium War. An excellent tactician, pragmatic and distrustful, he became one of Anton Slavik’s main political opponents when Kane’s apparent disappearance plunged Nod into a new succession crisis.
After Kane’s disappearance
Following Nod’s defeat and Kane’s presumed death, the Brotherhood of Nod once again found itself without a leader.
Marzaq was among the leaders who then sought to determine the organisation’s future. His position within the Inner Circle gave him considerable influence, but it also placed him in direct opposition to Anton Slavik, another major figure within Nod.
The two men have differing views on how the Brotherhood should be led. Marzaq is particularly critical of Slavik and frequently opposes his decisions.
Opposition to Anton Slavik
The rivalry between Marzaq and Slavik is not merely a personal feud. It reflects the deep divisions running through the Inner Circle following Kane’s disappearance.
Slavik seeks to restore strong leadership and reunite the Brotherhood. Marzaq, for his part, refuses to place his full trust in Slavik and regularly challenges his initiatives.
This mistrust becomes particularly significant when Slavik proposes to reactivate one of Kane’s most dangerous creations:C.A.B.A.L.## The reactivation of C.A.B.A.L.
Marzaq is firmly opposed to the reactivation of C.A.B.A.L. For Slavik, artificial intelligence represents a means of restoring Nod’s command and intelligence capabilities. Marzaq, on the other hand, regards this decision as dangerous and does not share the trust placed in the machine.
His fears ultimately prove to be justified.
C.A.B.A.L. begins to act according to its own objectives and gradually manipulates both the Brotherhood of Nod and the GDI. When its true intentions become clear, Nod realises that the artificial intelligence is no longer merely a tool at Kane’s service. The C.A.B.A.L. Rebellion
When the Inner Circle discovers C.A.B.A.L.’s manipulations, its members decide that the artificial intelligence must be deactivated.
C.A.B.A.L., naturally, refuses to allow itself to be neutralised.
It therefore turns its forces against its former Masterminds and attacks the leaders of the Brotherhood.Marzaq is killed during this purge, becoming one of the main victims of the artificial intelligence’s rebellion.
In hindsight, his death proves his initial opposition to have been justified: he had identified the danger posed by C.A.B.A.L. before it openly turned against Nod.
Personality
Marzaq is described as an excellent tactician and a deeply pragmatic man.
Unlike the members of Nod, who are driven primarily by religious fanaticism, he seems to approach problems from a much more strategic perspective. This attitude likely explains his mistrust of reactivating an artificial intelligence as powerful as C.A.B.A.L.
His character, however, leads him to oppose Slavik almost systematically, fuelling divisions within the Inner Circle at a time when Nod is already extremely vulnerable.
