Status: Unknown.Joshua Mitchell is a decorated GDI general who distinguished himself during the Second Tiberium War. After the conflict, he founded the Steel Talons, an experimental military unit designed to maintain the GDI’s technological edge and test new equipment in the field.
A GDI veteran
Mitchell earned a solid reputation during the war against Kane. A strong-willed Officer known for his willingness to take risks, he managed, after the conflict, to secure special funding to develop a new military unit.
His reasoning went beyond the mere pursuit of military power. Mitchell believed that the spread of Tiberium risked demoralizing entire populations and providing the Brotherhood of Nod with a significant pool of new recruits. The GDI must therefore maintain sufficient technological superiority to counter this threat.
The Steel Talons
Mitchell thus founded an experimental technological battalion codenamed Steel Talons.
Its soldiers specialise in the use of the GDI’s experimental weapons and ammunition. Mitchell’s doctrine places particular emphasis on firepower, heavily armoured vehicles and technologies capable of providing a decisive advantage against Nod’s forces.
One of his most high-profile supporters is the former Commando Nick "Havoc" Parker, a veteran of the First Tiberium War. His presence underscores the elite nature of the new unit.
Reputation
Mitchell is an ambitious, determined and daring Commander, but his self-assurance has also earned him a reputation for arrogance.
Kane himself describes him as an arrogant Officer, whilst warning that his methods must not be underestimated under any circumstances. The Prophet specifically acknowledges the danger posed by his tactics, firepower and armour.
This assessment sums up the philosophy of the Steel Talons: accepting certain tactical limitations in exchange for considerable firepower and resilience.
