The German Chancellor is the leader of Germany during the Third World War, which pits the Allied Forces against Alexander Romanov’s Soviet Union.
As a member of the European Council, he takes part, alongside the French and British leaders, in discussions regarding a European military intervention alongside the United States.
At the start of the conflict, however, the European powers remain on the sidelines. The situation in the US is catastrophic, but direct intervention would expose Western Europe to Soviet Nuclear Missile Silos stationed near the Polish border.
The nuclear destruction of Chicago nevertheless prompts European leaders to seriously consider providing military aid to the United States.
The German Chancellor then set a clear condition:no European Soldiers would be deployed until the Soviet missiles capable of striking Europe had been neutralised.
The Allies therefore organise Operation Dark Night. Tanya Adams and a team of Commandos are infiltrated into Eastern Europe with the mission of destroying the two Soviet nuclear silos.
The operation is a success and eliminates the immediate threat to Western Europe. The remaining Soviet missiles are withdrawn far enough into Russian territory that they can no longer reach key European targets.
The Chancellor then honours his commitment: Germany and the other European powers enter the war alongside the United States, contributing troops, equipment and resources to the Allied coalition.
Germany also provided an even more valuable form of assistance.
In recognition of the American intervention against the Soviet missiles, the Chancellor authorised the United States to benefit from the work of Germany’s most famous scientist: Albert Einstein.
The technologies developed by Einstein gave the Allies a considerable advantage, particularly thanks to prism weapons and the Chronosphere, which proved essential in the counter-offensive against the Soviet Union.
After Europe entered the war, the Allies gradually regained the initiative. Washington was liberated and American forces were able to begin recapturing the occupied territory.
The Chancellor subsequently remains one of the leaders of the Allied coalition, although he plays a far less direct role than President Michael Dugan or General Ben Carville.
His role nevertheless continues in the altered timeline of Yuri's Revenge.
When Yuri captures Albert Einstein in Egypt in order to force him to work on his Psychic Dominator, the German government is particularly concerned about the fate of its scientist.
The Allies therefore launch an operation against Yuri’s facilities around the Great Pyramid, in order to free Einstein and prevent the completion of the Psychic Dominator.
The German Chancellor thus remains a secondary character, but he represents Europe’s political clout within the alliance against the Soviets. His initial refusal to commit his forces is not an act of opposition to the United States: above all, he is seeking to avoid a nuclear retaliation against Europe.
Once this threat has been removed, he instead becomes one of the key supporters of the Allied counter-offensive and grants the Americans access to Einstein’s inventions.
