Name: Marcus*Title:* Brother Marcus*Affiliation:* Brotherhood of Nod*Faction:* Black Hand*Role:* Commander*Mentor:* Kane*Enemies:* GDI, then Kane*Time period:* Between 2052 and 2062*Appearance:* Command & Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight – mobile version
Status: Captured by the GDI.Brother Marcus is a fanatical commander of the Black Hand, personally trained by Kane. An authoritarian and particularly demanding Officer, he leads his men with a firm hand and tolerates no failure. His loyalty to Nod’s doctrine is, however, so radical that it paradoxically ends up driving him to turn against his own prophet.
A Disciple of Kane
Marcus holds a special position within Nod, having been raised and trained directly by Kane. He went on to become a Commander and member of the Black Hand, one of the Brotherhood’s most fanatical branches.
His command style is extremely harsh. Marcus demands absolute obedience from his subordinates and makes it clear that failure will result in severe consequences. This discipline reflects his radical view of Nod and its mission.
The Break with Kane
Following the events of 2052, the spread of Tiberium gradually threatened to render the Earth uninhabitable. Kane therefore prepared an unprecedented decision: to propose an alliance with the GDI in order to combat the catastrophe.
When Marcus learns of this plan, he flies into a rage.
For this Black Hand fanatic, cooperating with the Brotherhood’s historic enemy constitutes an unacceptable betrayal. His loyalty to the principles he attributes to Nod then becomes stronger than his personal loyalty to Kane. Marcus betrays the Prophet and rallies his own army to attack the GDI forces.
Uprising and Capture
Marcus’s uprising occurs whilst Kane is already conducting secret negotiations with the GDI leadership.
Kane therefore indirectly approves of the GDI’s intervention against his former disciple. A Commander is sent to confront the rebel forces with the aim of capturing Marcus alive.
The operation is successful and Marcus ultimately falls into the hands of the GDI. His subsequent fate is not specified.
In the Nod campaign
Marcus plays a different role in the Nod campaign of the mobile version of Tiberium Twilight.
He acts as superior to the Commander played by the player and relays orders to him during the early missions. This portrayal allows players to get to know Marcus before his break with Kane and highlights his status as a key Commander within the Brotherhood.
Personality
Marcus is, above all, an authoritarian and uncompromising fanatic. His loyalty to the doctrine of the Brotherhood of Nod is absolute, but this conviction has an unusual consequence: when he believes that Kane himself is betraying the Brotherhood’s principles, Marcus chooses to rebel rather than accept his decision.
He thus joins the various dissidents who, throughout Nod’s history, have come to challenge the Prophet’s authority. Unlike certain Rivals who seek power above all else, Marcus’s rebellion seems primarily motivated by his ideological refusal to cooperate with the GDI in any way.
