Status: Unknown.
The British Prime Minister is the leader of the United Kingdom during the Third World War, which pits the Allied Forces against Alexander Romanov’s Soviet Union. She represents her country on the European Council, alongside French General René Lyon and the German Chancellor.
She is never named in Red Alert 2. Her role is relatively brief, but her intervention proves decisive in bringing the European powers into the war alongside the United States.
The European Council
When Romanov launches the invasion of the United States, President Michael Dugan calls on the European powers to come to the Americans’ aid.
Britain, France and Germany still possess significant military forces capable of shifting the balance of the conflict. Their leaders meet within the European Council, a political body representing Europe’s major Allied Forces.
The British Prime Minister sits on the Council alongside René Lyon and the German Chancellor.
However, the Europeans do not commit themselves immediately.
Europe under Soviet threat
Romanov had a particularly effective means of keeping them out of the war: Soviet Nuclear Missile Silos deployed in Poland, in the immediate vicinity of the major European powers.
A European intervention against the Soviet Union could therefore provoke a nuclear retaliation against their own territories.
The Prime Minister personally shows the Allied Commander reconnaissance photographs of the Soviet installations and draws his attention to their proximity to Europe. She believes that Romanov’s objective is precisely to deter Europeans from entering the war.
After the destruction of Chicago
The situation changes following the nuclear destruction of Chicago.
The Soviets’ actual use of a nuclear weapon demonstrates to the Europeans that Romanov is genuinely prepared to use his arsenal.
The Council then becomes much more receptive to American demands. It considers supplying the United States with troops, ammunition, aircraft and vehicles, but the threat posed by missiles deployed in Europe must first be eliminated.
The problem therefore becomes very clear:
the Europeans can significantly bolster the United States, but they cannot intervene openly as long as Romanov is able to use nuclear blackmail against their governments. The solution lies in launching a covert operation against Soviet installations.
The Allied Commander is tasked with destroying the two nuclear silos located on the German-Polish border.
The British Prime Minister attends the briefing and personally presents the photographs identifying the installations.
Tanya Adams is to play a central role in the operation.
The European Council initially wishes to secure her services in exchange for its military aid. Tanya, however, refuses to come under the command of European leaders and demands to continue serving the Allied Commander directly.
This demand is ultimately accepted.
Destruction of the silos
The Allied Commander and Tanya then launch Operation Dark Night.
Allied Forces infiltrate the Soviet-controlled zone and destroy the two nuclear silos.
Romanov thus loses the main lever of pressure that had prevented the European powers from openly participating in the conflict.
The strategic implications are considerable.
Britain, France and Germany can now fully enter the war against the Soviet Union.## Europe joins the United States
Once the silos have been destroyed, the European Council honours its commitment.
European forces formally join the Allied coalition and provide military support to the United States.
This intervention comes at a critical moment.
Washington is then occupied by Soviet forces, and a Psychic Beacon enables Yuri to keep part of the population under mental control.
The European reinforcements take part in the counter-offensive that enables the Allies to regain the initiative and continue the war against Romanov.
The British Prime Minister therefore plays a relatively brief but strategically important political role:she is one of the leaders whose support helps transform a war initially centred on the invasion of the United States into a genuine international coalition against the Soviet Union.
Britain in the Allied Forces
The United Kingdom already has a long tradition within the Allied Forces.
During the previous war against the Soviet Union, the British had taken part in the European coalition that repelled Stalin’s armies. Several decades later, the country still belongs to the Allied bloc and finally answers the United States’ call when Romanov unleashes a new world war.
In Red Alert 2, each major European nation also has a specific military speciality.
The British speciality is the Sniper, whilst Germany has the Tank Destroyer and France the Grand Cannon.
The Prime Minister thus represents a nation with its own armed forces whilst participating in the Allies’ joint military structure.
After the war
The Prime Minister does not appear again after her involvement in Operation Dark Night, and her personal fate is not specified.
The Allied campaign nevertheless ends with the defeat of the Soviet Union.
Romanov is captured in Moscow and forced to accept the terms imposed by the victors.
One interesting detail concerns Great Britain directly: following his capture, Romanov is taken to London, where he signs the treaty in Parliament formalising the Allied victory and the Soviet surrender.
The British Prime Minister then orders that Romanov be imprisoned in the Tower of London for the rest of his life.
This element therefore gives her a small additional role at the conclusion of the war, even if it is not shown directly in a traditional cutscene.
Resemblance to Margaret Thatcher>
Her appearance is strongly reminiscent of Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990 and nicknamed the ‘Iron Lady’. This resemblance is also noted in the behind-the-scenes information about the character. However, she should not be directly identified as Margaret Thatcher.
In the Red Alert universe, the character has no known official name and is simply referred to as the British Prime Minister.
