Giles Price is a British Officer in the Allied Forces and one of the principal commanders of the Third World War. A former fighter pilot with the Royal Air Force, he gradually moved away from the cockpit to take on command roles, eventually becoming one of the Allies’ leading specialists in aerial warfare.

Intelligent, meticulous and decisive, Giles also possesses a very British sense of humour and considerable confidence in his own abilities. This self-assurance sometimes verges on arrogance, particularly when it comes to aviation.

From Pilot to Commander

Before the war, Giles was one of the RAF’s finest fighter pilots. When the opportunity arose to take up a staff post, he agreed to leave active service as a pilot and quickly rose through the ranks of the command structure.

In particular, he secured a post at Von Esling Airbase in Iceland, one of the Allied Forces’ most important strategic installations in Europe.

This experience explains his specialisation: Giles generally favours air power, bombing raids and air superiority.

His ego in this area fuels a fierce rivalry with Vera Belova, one of the finest Soviet air commanders.

Defence of Brighton Beach

In the Allied campaign of Red Alert 3, Giles is the first co-commander to fight alongside the new Allied Commander.

When the Soviets attack Britain, the two officers are tasked with defending Brighton Beach against the forces of General Nikolai Krukov.

In particular, Giles proposes seizing the coastal guns quickly in order to turn these defences against the Red Army. The two commanders ultimately succeed in repelling the invasion.

This first victory also marks the beginning of his respect for the Allied Commander.

The Third World War

Giles goes on to take part in Allied operations against the Soviet Union and the Empire of the Rising Sun.

His expertise in aerial warfare proved particularly useful when the Allies attacked Havana. The Soviets were preparing a large fleet of Kirov Airships there, intended to launch an attack on the United States.

Giles takes part in the operation to prevent the Kirovs from leaving Cuba and helps to destroy the Soviet installations.

During the war, he develops a genuine admiration for the Allied Commander, to the point of considering writing a book dedicated to his exploits.

Like many characters in Red Alert 3, Giles’s fate varies depending on the campaign played.

In the Soviet campaign, he notably attempts to recapture a research facility in Greece before taking part in the defence of the Von Esling airbase in Iceland. At the time, this base was one of the last major Allied strongholds in Europe. The Soviets eventually destroyed the base and Giles was presumed killed.

In the Imperial campaign, Giles fights the forces of the Rising Sun on several occasions. In particular, he takes part in the attack on the floating fortress Black Tortoise, before finally being defeated during the Imperial offensive against Amsterdam.

These deaths, however, belong to the corresponding alternate timelines.

The continuity of Uprisingis based on an Allied victory, in which Giles survived.

Uprising

Following the Allied victory, Giles gradually moves away from purely military command to become more involved in international affairs.

He becomes a particularly active diplomat, but always keeps his squadrons close by to back up his positions when necessary.

Above all, he receives a politically significant promotion:Giles Price becomes Director of the Office of the Occupation Forces in Japan. He is thus tasked with overseeing part of the Allied occupation of the former Empire of the Rising Sun.

The Occupation of Japan

Following its defeat, Japan found itself in an extremely unstable situation. The Allies occupied the territory, whilst Tatsu officially agreed to collaborate with them.

At the same time, several former imperial commanders refused to surrender.

Giles therefore directly represents the Allied military authority responsible for maintaining order in this region.

During the Imperial campaign in Uprising, he also intervenes when Japanese forces are fighting the Soviets. In particular, he states that he cannot officially provide assistance to the Japanese, even though some Allied units may find themselves fighting alongside them.

This clearly illustrates the character’s evolution: the former fighter pilot is now as involved in international politics as he is in military operations.## The Commander’s Challenge

Giles also appears in the Commander’s Challenge, where he is one of the officers faced by the FutureTech Commander.

Naturally, he retains his aerial specialisation.

In Out of the Blue, FutureTech must defeat him in order to obtain the technology of the Century Bomber. Giles subsequently appears in other challenges, notably No Place To Hide and Battle Room.

These encounters also highlight his main flaw: his great self-confidence can easily turn into overconfidence.

Even when defeated, however, Giles retains his sense of humour and his relatively gracious attitude towards his opponent.

Giles and Vera Belova

The rivalry between Giles Price and Vera Belova makes particular sense: both are aviation specialists belonging to enemy powers.

Giles is convinced of the superiority of the Allied air force, whilst Vera herself has a considerable ego when it comes to the Soviet air force. Their rivalry therefore becomes as much personal as it is military.

They can also be encountered together in certain ‘Commander’s Challenge’ battles, notably Battle Room, alongside Shinzo Nagama.

Personality

Giles is generally portrayed as an intelligent, methodical, witty and self-assured Officer.

He stands in contrast to Warren Fuller, who is far more aggressive, and Douglas Hill, who is more closely associated with ground forces.

Giles is more representative of the professional British Commander: disciplined and competent, but with a dry sense of humour and a certain taste for typically British pleasures - right down to his remarks about tea and biscuits.

His admiration for the Allied Commander also shows that he is able to recognise the competence of another Officer despite his own ego.
