Status: Unknown.Dr Alphonse Giraud is a French scientist specialising in the study of liquid Tiberium. Employed by G-Tech in a Blue Zone in Chile, he becomes a particularly important specialist when the GDI recovers data from Nod’s secret research into this substance.

Specialist in liquid Tiberium

Giraud is tasked with analysing the information recovered from a Nod Tech Center dedicated to liquid Tiberium. His work is intended to enable the GDI to understand the properties of this substance and, above all, the dangers associated with its military use.

He also becomes an adviser to General Jack Granger, whom he helps to assess the threat posed by Nod’s research.

This expertise quickly attracts Kane’s attention.

A threat to Kane’s plans

Kane realises that Giraud risks uncovering his true intentions regarding liquid Tiberium. If he manages to pass on his findings to Redmond Boyle, the GDI might become aware of the danger before Kane’s plan has come to fruition.

But eliminating the scientist would also be a waste: his knowledge could be useful to the Brotherhood.

Kane therefore orders LEGIONS to storm his Chilean laboratory and capture Giraud alive.

Kidnapping by Nod

Legions attacks the complex and succeeds in abducting the scientist.

The GDI makes several attempts to intercept and destroy the Nod Transport carrying Giraud, but all these attempts fail. The scientist thus falls definitively into the hands of the Brotherhood of Nod.

Above all, his abduction enables Kane to prevent the GDI from obtaining crucial information about his liquid Tiberium programme at a crucial stage.

In the service of Nod

Giraud’s behaviour following his capture is particularly ambiguous.

Rather than offering sustained resistance to Nod, he quickly puts his scientific expertise at the service of the Brotherhood of Nod. The exact circumstances of this cooperation remain unclear: there is no evidence to establish definitively whether he is acting of his own free will, under duress or simply out of opportunism.

In particular, Giraud develops the technology for Vein Detonation for Nod, enabling the crystal’s instability to be exploited directly as a weapon.

His research also contributed to the development of the Tiberium Sprayer, a portable weapon that directly utilises the crystal’s toxic and mutagenic properties.

Significance

Alphonse Giraud plays a relatively low-key role, but his research contributes directly to the evolution of Nod’s arsenal.

His career also illustrates Kane’s strategy: rather than simply eliminating a scientist who might threaten his plans, he prefers to appropriate their knowledge and turn it against the GDI.

Giraud thus goes from being an expert charged with helping Jack Granger combat liquid Tiberium weapons to becoming a scientist who himself contributes to the development of new Tiberium weapons for Nod.
