The South Korean Naval Commander, usually referred to simply as the Korean Commander, is the officer in charge of the Republic of Korea Navy during the Third World War.
South Korea is then part of the Allied Forces and constitutes one of their main military pillars in Asia and the Pacific.
Unlike the members of the European Council, the Korean Commander is first and foremost a military Officer. He directly commands his country’s naval operations and commands a large Allied fleet.
His most prominent role comes during the Soviet Red Alert 2 campaign. It should therefore be noted that the events recounted here pertain to this branch of the campaign and do not necessarily form part of the Allied timeline.
During Operation Home Front, South Korea decides to honour its commitments to the United States by opening a new front against the Soviet Union.
The Korean Commander assembles a large amphibious force and launches an attack on the Russian Far East with the aim of landing in the Vladivostok region.
However, the fleet is detected before reaching its target. This gives the Soviet high command the time needed to organise the defence of the coast.
Rather than recall General Vladimir, who was occupied with operations in the United States, Romanov and Yuri entrusted the defence to a new Soviet Commander.
The South Koreans established a bridgehead and launched their offensive, but encountered much stiffer resistance than anticipated.
Soviet forces eventually repel the assault and inflict heavy losses on the Korean fleet. The invasion of Vladivostok fails and the survivors are forced to withdraw.
This defeat, however, does not bring South Korea’s participation in the war to an end.
Later, when the Soviets attack Allied positions around Hawaii, the Korean Commander sends a new fleet to support the Americans.
This force included destroyers, Aegis Cruisers and Aircraft Carriers, forming a powerful surface fleet. It was, however, intercepted and completely destroyed by the Soviet Commander’s forces during Operation Sub-Divide.
The character does not physically appear in Yuri's Revenge, unlike several other Allied figures from Red Alert 2.
He is, however, mentioned during the Soviet campaign. During Operation Clones Down Under, his forces battle Yuri’s Boomer submarines, which are threatening the Pacific region.
This mention indicates that, in this timeline altered by time travel, the Korean Commander remains active and that South Korea is also participating in the war against Yuri's Army.
His fate following Yuri’s defeat is not specified.
The Korean Commander thus essentially represents the Allied Forces’ Asian naval power. Whilst the United States constitutes their main military power and the Europeans contribute, in particular, their advanced technologies, South Korea plays an important role in controlling the Pacific.
He also serves as a reminder that the Allied Forces in Red Alert 2 are not limited to the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom: South Korea is also a full member of the coalition.
