Status: Deceased before 2047.James Solomon is the Supreme Commander of the GDI during the Second Tiberium War. A graduate of the prestigious West Point Military Academy, he directs the war against the Brotherhood from the Philadelphia orbital station, whilst Cdr. McNeil leads the main operations on the ground.
Supreme Commander of the GDI
When Kane reappears and Nod resumes hostilities in 2030, Solomon personally receives a communication from the Prophet. The return of a man the GDI believed to be dead immediately confirms that another major war is about to break out.
From the Philadelphia, Solomon organises the GDI’s global counter-offensive and entrusts Cdr. Michael McNeil with the leadership of the most important operations. The relationship between the two men forms one of the cornerstones of the GDI’s command structure: Solomon sets the strategic objectives whilst McNeil executes them on the ground.
Hassan’s Manipulation
Solomon does not fight Nod solely by military means. Before Kane’s public return, he also attempts to neutralise the Brotherhood of Nod from within.
General Hassan, who at the time led a significant portion of Nod, was secretly working for the GDI. Solomon thus hoped to control or weaken a fragmented Brotherhood of Nod by using one of its own leaders.
The strategy fails when Anton Slavik, loyal to Kane, rebels against Hassan and helps to reunite Nod’s true loyalists.
The Second Tiberium War
Following Kane’s return, Solomon oversees the GDI’s campaign from orbit. Cdr. McNeil gradually secures several major victories and uncovers the full extent of Nod’s new plan.
The conflict ultimately leads to the GDI’s offensive against Kane in Cairo. Cdr. McNeil prevents the launch of the global alteration missile and personally defeats Kane.
This victory also marked a triumph for Solomon’s leadership: under his command, the GDI won the Second Tiberium War and recovered the Tacitus, which had become essential to understanding the threat posed by Tiberium.
Legacy
Solomon was no longer in command of the GDI during the Third Tiberium War in 2047 and had by then already passed away. His era nevertheless remains associated with one of the organisation’s most significant military victories: the defeat of Kane during the Second Tiberium War.
He is also one of the few GDI commanders to have attempted to defeat Nod simultaneously through conventional warfare and the manipulation of its internal divisions, as demonstrated by his use of Hassan.
