The United States of America is one of the three major powers in Command & Conquer: Generals, alongside China and the Global Liberation Army. As the world’s leading economic, technological and military power at the start of the conflict, it possesses a relatively expensive but extremely sophisticated military.
When the GLA began its attacks in China, Washington initially remained on the sidelines. However, the organisation’s expansion and the threat it posed eventually prompted US military intervention.
The United States then deploys its forces against the GLA in the Middle East and Central Asia, carrying out a series of operations designed to destroy its infrastructure and neutralise its leaders.
In particular, they clashed with the organisation in Kazakhstan, where the US military deployed its most powerful weapons against the GLA’s fortresses and Tunnel Networks.
The offensive eventually reached Akmola, the GLA’s headquarters. With China’s help, US forces launched the assault and destroyed the organisation’s main stronghold.
However, this victory was not enough to eliminate the GLA once and for all. Its leader, Mohmar ‘Deathstrike’, evades the Americans and manages to reunite the organisation’s various cells.
Militarily, the United States prioritises technology, mobility and precision over numerical superiority. Their army is expensive, but designed to maximise the effectiveness and survival of its Soldiers.
Their arsenal includes, in particular,Rangers, Missile Defenders, Humvees, Crusader Tanks and Paladin Tanks, Tomahawk launchers, Raptors, Comanches and Stealth Fighters, supported by various types of drones.
The United States also possesses advanced technologies such as defensive lasers, microwave weapons, Spy Satellites and Battle Drones.
The symbol of this technological superiority remains the Particle Cannon, a super-weapon that uses an orbital mirror to focus a powerful beam of energy onto a ground target.
The US Air Force is one of their main strengths, whilst the US Navy enables this power to be projected far beyond American territory. Carrier strike groups are deployed in particular to support ground operations against the GLA.
In Zero Hour, however, this dominance begins to crumble. The reorganised GLA strikes the American fleet in the Mediterranean and seizes a Particle Cannon at Matala, Crete.
It then turns American technology against its creator and destroys the Aircraft Carrier USS Reagan, inflicting a spectacular defeat on the US Navy.
The GLA then strikes directly at US territory to steal toxins, whilst calls for the withdrawal of forces stationed in Europe grow louder in Washington.
The decisive blow came in Stuttgart, when the GLA used captured Chinese equipment to attack and destroy the US European Command.
Washington then ordered a general withdrawal from Europe in order to concentrate its forces on the defence of North America. Numerous abandoned bases and weapons fall into the hands of the GLA.
China finally regains the initiative, liberates Europe and destroys the GLA’s last significant forces near Hamburg.
This victory upends the global balance of power: the United States retreats into a isolationist policy, whilst China becomes the new dominant superpower and forges closer ties with Europe within the Eurasian Unity League.
In Generals, the United States thus represents the paragon of technological military power: initially capable of projecting their forces anywhere in the world and defeating the GLA on its own turf, they end Zero Hour weakened and withdrawn to their own territory, leaving China to assume the role of the world’s leading power.
