Status: Non-canonical faction in Generals 2

The European Union is one of the three major powers that were set to clash in Command & Conquer: Generals 2, alongside the Asia-Pacific Alliance and the Global Liberation Army.

Its origins can be traced directly back to the events of Zero Hour. Following the withdrawal of the United States, China liberated Europe from the GLA and became the planet’s new dominant power.

The European nations then forged closer ties with Beijing within the Eurasian Unity League, ushering in a period of cooperation between Europe and China.

However, this alliance eventually fell apart. Whilst China turned its attention to the Pacific and helped form the APA, Europe underwent a profound reorganisation.

The former union of European nations gradually became a unified political entity, with its own armed forces and an increasingly independent foreign policy.

By 2023, the European Union had become a technological and military superpower capable of directly challenging the global dominance exercised by the APA for nearly a decade.

At the same time, it is adopting an increasingly expansionist policy, extending its influence over several satellite states and causing tensions with the Asian alliance to rise.

The situation escalates when particularly violent uprisings break out simultaneously in several states dependent on both the EU and the APA.

The reconstituted GLA is suspected of fuelling these rebellions, although some fighters mysteriously possess technologies normally beyond the reach of an underground organisation.

These events trigger the Second War against the GLA, a global conflict that ultimately pitted the three major powers against one another.

Militarily, the European Union was intended to represent the technologically advanced faction in Generals 2, partly inheriting the role formerly occupied by the United States.

Its forces relied on expensive but sophisticated units: reconnaissance squads, snipers, Fox LRVs, APCs, Aegis tanks, Longbows, Tridents, Phantoms, Orcas and Valkyries.

The EU also had a firm grasp of more experimental technologies, notably railguns and heavy assault lasers, whilst its research centres were able to enhance the protection and firepower of its infantry and structures.

Unlike the APA, which was more focused on numbers and brute force, Europe therefore had to prioritise quality, specialisation and technological superiority.

Its army was led by several generals with very different doctrines: Julian ‘Bulldog’ Battersby, Didier ‘Daedalus’ Beauchamp, Jean-Marie ‘Ghost’ Gavel, Egon ‘Cutting Edge’ Schuller, Katerina ‘Cleaver’ ’ Von Hoftstadter, Charles ‘Mercury Red’ Barrowsmith, ‘Salvo’ Agembe and Lupa.

These commanders enabled the EU to specialise in fields as varied as aviation, railguns, Artillery, special forces, infiltration, rapid assaults and experimental technologies.

The European Union was thus intended to embody the new face of the West in the Generals universe: a Europe once saved by China, which had in turn become a unified, ambitious superpower, technologically capable of challenging the world order established by Beijing.
