Status: Alive.Tera Gallagher is a GDI soldier who served in the 22nd Infantry Division during the Third Tiberium War. An experienced soldier with a strong personality, she initially had a difficult relationship with Ricardo Vega, whom she suspected of having been fast-tracked through the ranks thanks to his family’s reputation. The two soldiers nevertheless eventually earned each other’s respect and became friends during the conflict.
The 22nd Infantry Division
Gallagher serves under Cdr. McNeil, who became Battle Commander of the 22nd Division during the war of 2047. She thus takes part in the battles waged by this unit against the Brotherhood of Nod.
It is within this division that she meets Ricardo Vega, a young Recruit whose father, Javier Vega, is a renowned GDI Officer. Gallagher initially believes that Vega owes his acceptance into this elite unit and his successive promotions to his father’s prestige rather than to his own abilities.
She herself rises through the ranks at the same time, eventually reaching the rank of Captain.
Ricardo Vega
Relations between Gallagher and Vega are therefore initially strained. She is one of the Soldiers most sceptical about his abilities and takes a dim view of his extremely rapid rise through the ranks.
The war gradually changes her opinion. Vega demonstrates his abilities during the 22nd Division’s operations, notably in San Diego, Madagascar and Australia. Gallagher eventually recognises his worth and the two become friends.
This relationship was to take on greater significance in the events following the war.
After the Third Tiberium War
Gallagher’s subsequent story stems from the cancelled Tiberiumproject and is therefore not fully confirmed canon. In this story, she survives the Third Tiberium War and becomes a GDI Commando under the command of Cdr. McNeil.
She is posted to the Mobius Research Station, located near the last remaining active Scrin Threshold Tower.
When the tower shows signs of unusual activity, the GDI launches an investigation. Ricardo Vega, now Forward Battle Commander, is sent to the site and meets up with Gallagher at the station.
Maja
Gallagher then informs Vega that the GDI is working with Maja, a Nod priestess secretly recruited as an informant by Cdr. McNeil.
Tera is extremely wary of her. Maja remains a member of the Brotherhood of Nod in name only and is particularly familiar with the positions of Nod’s forces around the Threshold Tower.
When Vega uses a traditional Nod greeting in front of her, Gallagher reacts with disgust and advises him not to repeat this gesture in front of GDI command.
Despite her sometimes harsh temperament, her affection for Vega remains evident: before she leaves to investigate the Tower, she asks him to take care of himself.
A partially canonical backstory
Tera Gallagher has one significant distinguishing feature: her backstory stems from two works with different statuses.
Her service in the 22nd Division and her relationship with Ricardo Vega appear in the spin-off novel Tiberium Wars, certain elements of which may diverge from the continuity of the games. Her subsequent career as a Commando at Mobius Station was, meanwhile, due to feature in Tiberium, a tactical shooter that was cancelled in 2008.
The events concerning the Threshold Tower, Maja and the reunion with Vega should therefore be regarded as originating from a cancelled storyline, and not as events definitively established within the main timeline.
