Status: Killed at the Temple of Nod in Cairo.Elena Petrova is a scientist specialising in the study of Tiberium. Initially regarded as one of the GDI’s finest Seekers, she worked alongside Ignatio Mobius and his daughter Sydney before joining the Brotherhood of Nod. She subsequently became the chief scientist on the ReGenesis project, a programme designed to create a new generation of Soldiers through Tiberium-induced mutations.

During the First Tiberium War, Petrova worked with the Mobius family at a GDI Tech Center in Guatemala. All three were captured by the Black Hand and forced to participate in Nod’s research into human biological enhancement.

The exact circumstances of her defection remain unclear. Petrova nevertheless eventually joined Nod and gained enough of Kane’s trust to take charge of the scientific leadership of ReGenesis. Some reports even suggest that she was in fact linked to the Brotherhood of Nod and was the project’s true mastermind.

The ReGenesis Project

ReGenesis seeks to use Tiberium as a controlled mutagen, artificially accelerating human evolution in order to create more powerful combatants. Petrova’s research successively leads to several generations of mutants.

She also draws on old Soviet research into cybernetics to better control the mutations. This combination enables the development of more powerful subjects whilst limiting certain mental impairments observed in the first specimens.

In particular, Petrova convinces Gideon Raveshaw to undergo the treatment. The General is transformed into an imposing, enhanced fighter, endowed with considerable strength but having lost much of his intelligence and his former personality.

Having perfected the process, Petrova decides to test it on herself. Unlike the previous subjects, she retains her intellectual abilities whilst benefiting from considerably enhanced strength, stamina and physical capabilities. Nod regards this transformation as the culmination of the programme.

Her mutation also intensifies her fanaticism: Petrova now regards transformation through Tiberium as a form of superior human evolution.

During the final assault on Nod’s facilities in Cairo, Petrova takes Sydney Mobius prisoner and prepares to transform her using the Divination process.

Nick "Havoc" Parker, however, reaches the heart of the Temple of Nod before the experiment can be completed. Petrova then threatens to subject Havoc to the treatment as well and confronts him directly in her mutated form.

Despite the superhuman abilities she has gained through Tiberium, Petrova is ultimately defeated and killed by Havoc, who frees Sydney and puts a definitive end to the ReGenesis project.
