Status: Retired from public life after 2039.Nick "Havoc" Parker is one of the most famous commandos in GDI history. An extremely effective Soldier but notoriously undisciplined, he prefers to go it alone, bend the rules and solve problems with copious amounts of explosives. Despite his temperament, his exceptional track record earns him the respect of his fellow Soldiers and the tolerance of his superiors.
From the USMC to the Dead-6
Parker grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in an ordinary family. From childhood, his penchant for brawls and, above all, for making small explosives earned him the nickname ‘Havoc’. The military eventually channelled this turbulent personality when he joined the US Marine Corps.
He took part, notably, in Operation Desert Storm, where his unconventional methods already landed him in disciplinary trouble. His effectiveness, however, remains beyond dispute and, following the creation of the GDI, he was transferred to the new organisation.
Havoc then took command of a covert unit that became the Dead-6. Its members were officially declared dead so that they could carry out secret operations with greater freedom. Sakura Obata, Dariel ‘Deadeye’ MacInnis, Nigel ‘Gunner’ Grant, Shai ‘Hotwire’ Aviv and Erich ‘Patch’ Wulfe were among his comrades.
The Departure of the Dead-6
Parker’s career within the unit comes to an end following an operation in Egypt. Havoc and Sakura destroy a Tiberium-related laboratory, but the operation triggers a major diplomatic incident. Parker was subsequently removed from the Dead-6, although he remained deeply connected to the team and retained his Commando-style methods.
He continued his service with the GDI under the command of Brigadier General Adam Locke, with Lieutenant Adriana Maus as his mission controller.
The First Tiberium War
During the war against Nod, Havoc becomes one of the GDI’s most valuable agents. When several scientists, including Ignatio and Sydney Mobius, are kidnapped by the Black Hand, he embarks on a lengthy operation to find them.
His mission pits him against, amongst others, Carlos Mendoza, his former partner Sakura Obata and General Gideon Raveshaw. Havoc eventually uncovers Project ReGenesis, a programme using Tiberium to create enhanced mutant soldiers.
During this campaign, he infiltrates numerous enemy installations, reunites with his former comrades from the Dead-6 and helps to destroy the Black Hand’s research. His actions play a direct part in the GDI’s victory over Nod.
After the First Tiberium War, Parker is promoted to Colonel in recognition of his exploits. His reputation grows to such an extent that a statue is erected in his honour in Washington, as well as another near Dr Alphonse Giraud’s research centre.
After the Second Tiberium War, he lent his support to General Joshua Mitchell and the Steel Talons, sharing their passion for heavy armour and experimental military technologies.
Retirement
Havoc retired from public life in 2039, though he did not disappear completely. He continued to comment occasionally on the GDI’s decisions and was particularly critical of the withdrawal of the Mammoth Mk. II.
He also remains convinced that Kane survived his confrontation with Cdr. McNeil and urges GDI leaders to actively continue their search for the Prophet. His suspicions would prove to be well-founded.
When the Mastodon finally enters service in 2069, Parker enthusiastically welcomes this new heavy walker. Even in his old age, he is still occasionally spotted at GDI headquarters in the company of military commanders.
Personality
Havoc is a sarcastic, independent maverick with a penchant for explosives. He has little patience for authority and prefers to improvise rather than follow a plan to the letter. This lack of discipline is not, however, a sign of incompetence: Parker is an experienced veteran who generally knows exactly how far he can push the limits.
His behaviour regularly irritates his superiors, but his extraordinary success rate allows him to retain a degree of freedom that few other soldiers could afford. Behind his humour and his taste for destruction, Havoc remains, above all, a Soldier deeply loyal to the GDI.
