Status: Deceased, executed by Kane.Seth was Kane’s second-in-command during the First Tiberium War. He was one of the main intermediaries between the Prophet and the Brotherhood’s commanders. Extremely ambitious and distrustful of anyone who might threaten his position, he nevertheless ended up overstepping his authority by launching an operation against Washington without Kane’s consent. This initiative cost him his life.
Kane’s right-hand man
At the start of the war, Seth held a particularly high position within the Nod hierarchy. He introduced himself with a phrase that perfectly summed up his view of power: after God comes Kane, then Seth.
He is responsible for relaying Kane’s instructions to the various commanders of the Brotherhood of Nod. To communicate with them, Nod uses, amongst other things, a pirated version of the GDI’s E.V.A. system.
Seth thus oversees a significant portion of Nod’s early operations. In particular, he orders the elimination of Nikoomba, a Libyan tribal chief whose opposition is hindering the Brotherhood’s expansion in Africa.
A dangerous ambition
Seth is particularly ambitious and wary of talented commanders. The emergence of a new military leader racking up victory after victory therefore potentially poses a threat to his own standing with Kane.
This rivalry reaches its peak when Seth orders the Commander to launch an attack on Washington.
The problem is a major one: Kane never authorised this operation. Seth’s exact motives remain unclear. He may have begun plotting a personal coup, but it is also possible that he deliberately sent the Commander on a disastrous mission in order to eliminate a rival who had become too competent.
Executed by Kane
Kane quickly discovers his Lieutenant’s initiative and intervenes personally to cut short the briefing.
He gives Seth no opportunity to justify himself and shoots him in the head, thereby reminding everyone that no one within the Brotherhood has the authority to act above him.
Seth’s death also ensures that the Commander-whom Seth was presumably seeking to sideline-will now receive his instructions directly from Kane.
Seth’s body
Kane does not merely make his former Lieutenant disappear. Seth’s corpse is preserved in a machine, apparently to serve as a permanent warning to anyone who might be tempted to circumvent the Prophet’s authority.
Years later, during the events of Command & Conquer: Renegade, Nick "Havoc" Parker discovers Seth’s preserved body whilst searching for Elena Petrova and attempting to rescue Sydney Mobius.
His body was probably destroyed along with the Temple of Nod in Sarajevo at the end of the First Tiberium War, although this remains a supposition rather than an explicitly confirmed fact.
Seth is characterised above all by his ambition, jealousy and thirst for power. His position as second-in-command is clearly not enough to make him feel secure: he regards competent Commanders as potential rivals.
His fundamental mistake, however, is to underestimate Kane. By issuing a major strategic order without his authorisation, Seth crosses a line that the leader of Nod cannot tolerate.
