Affiliation: Soviet Union*Origin:* Ukraine*Role:* Resistance fighter / Commander*Nickname:**‘White Sparrow’*Status: Alive Veronika ‘Vera’ Belova is a Ukrainian fighter who became one of the leading figures of the Soviet resistance following the USSR’s defeat at the end of the Third World War.

Nicknamed the ‘White Sparrow’, she emerged in a decapitated Soviet Union, whose main leaders had been imprisoned following the Allies’ victory.

Against this backdrop of disorganisation, Vera helped to restore a semblance of order and hope amongst the Soviet population, whilst calling on her compatriots to continue the struggle.

Her promises of glory and vengeance inspire a new generation of Soviets to take up arms to defend their homeland.

Her victories gradually turn her into a veritable propaganda figure, used to boost public morale and encourage resistance to the Allied occupation.

Belova thus joins the new Soviet resistance, led by the former intelligence officer Dasha Fedorovich.

Although she does not take part directly in the operations depicted in the Soviet campaign of Uprising, it is suggested that she is simultaneously waging her own battles and securing several victories for the Union.

A cool-headed and particularly self-assured Commander, Vera is readily provocative towards her opponents and finds it hard to accept defeat.

She also appears to have a close relationship with Natasha Volkova, the famous Soviet sniper, whom she holds in very high regard.

In the Commanders’ Challenge, Vera appears as one of the Soviet commanders the player can face, independently of the main narrative campaign.

She thus represents the new generation of military leaders that emerged after the collapse of Cherdenko’s government: no longer directly from the Soviet establishment, but from the resistance born from the ruins of war.

Ultimately, Vera Belova embodies the Soviet Union’s thirst for revenge in Uprising: a fighter who has become a national symbol, rallying around the ‘White Sparrow’ those who refuse to accept the demise of Soviet power.
