General ‘Pinpoint’ Townes is a US Army officer specialising in the development and military application of laser weapons.
A pioneer of this technology within the US armed forces, he has developed an offensive and defensive doctrine based almost entirely on directed-energy weapons.
After a period devoted to research and teaching, however, Townes found academic life too slow-paced and returned to operational command in 2010.
Thanks to his in-depth knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of lasers, he achieved excellent results in both military exercises and live-fire operations.
A four-star general, he continues his research in parallel to improve the power and energy efficiency of his weapon systems.
His arsenal relies in particular on the Laser Tank, derived from the Crusader Tank but equipped with a powerful directed-energy cannon, which is particularly effective against vehicles.
His bases are protected by Laser Turrets, capable of engaging both ground units and aircraft, whilst his Avengers are less costly to deploy.
However, this firepower is entirely dependent on its energy grid: each Laser Tank consumes electricity and can be neutralised if the base’s Power Plants cease to function.
Townes compensates for this vulnerability with upgraded Reactors, which are less expensive and produce more energy.
His specialisation also means he forgoes Paladin Tanks and Tomahawk launchers, limiting his conventional Artillery capabilities.
In the Generals’ Challenge, Townes commands from Fort Union, in Redwood Shores, a fortress heavily protected by its Laser Turrets.
Extremely confident in the superiority of his technology, he regards precision as superior to brute force and approaches combat as a problem that can be calculated and controlled.
‘Pinpoint’ Townes thus embodies a new generation of American technological warfare:striking with precision, controlling the battlefield through energy, and allowing lasers to gradually replace conventional weapons.
