Status: Deceased, assassinated on Marcion’s orders.Anton Slavik is one of Nod’s most important leaders after Kane. Commander of the Black Hand and a loyal supporter of the Prophet, he plays a decisive role in the reunification of the Brotherhood of Nod at the start of the Second Tiberium War. Following Kane’s latest disappearance, Slavik finally takes the helm of Nod and leads the organisation through the crisis caused by C.A.B.A.L.
The Black Hand
Slavik belongs to the most fanatical faction within Nod and becomes the leader of the Black Hand. His loyalty to Kane stands in contrast to that of several members of the Inner Circle who, following the Prophet’s disappearance, seek to take control of the Brotherhood of Nod themselves.
When Nod becomes fragmented, Slavik remains convinced that Kane will return. This loyalty puts him in direct opposition to Hassan, a leader secretly backed by the GDI.
Slavik is eventually captured and sentenced to death, but Oxanna Kristos organises his escape. He then gradually regains control of the forces loyal to Kane.
Kane’s Return
From his mobile Command Hub, the Montauk, Slavik waged a campaign against Hassan and rival factions.
After overthrowing his adversary, Slavik discovered that Kane was indeed alive. The Prophet’s return confirms his loyalty and enables him to regain a central position within Nod’s hierarchy.
During the Second Tiberium War, he thus becomes one of Kane’s principal commanders and leads Nod’s forces against the GDI from Montauk.
After Kane’s disappearance
The GDI’s victory and Kane’s renewed disappearance plunge Nod once again into chaos.
Slavik then sees an opportunity to take control of the Brotherhood of Nod, but faces opposition from the Inner Circle. To restore the organisation, he decides to reactivate C.A.B.A.L., the artificial intelligence formerly used by Kane.
This decision proves disastrous.
C.A.B.A.L.’s betrayal
C.A.B.A.L. uses Nod to further its own agenda before turning against the Brotherhood of Nod. Slavik realises that he has unleashed a threat far greater than Nod’s internal strife.
Faced with this danger, he does something extraordinary for a leader of the Brotherhood: he temporarily suspends hostilities with the GDI and cooperates with his historic enemy to destroy C.A.B.A.L.
The alliance ultimately succeeds in defeating the artificial intelligence.
Leader of Nod
Despite his misstep with C.A.B.A.L., Slavik manages to achieve a major objective:to reunite Nod under his command. The Brotherhood of Nod thus regains some of its power following the disasters of the Second Tiberium War.
Slavik effectively becomes Nod’s principal leader in Kane’s absence. His position remains precarious, however, as several factions challenge his authority and, in particular, view his cooperation with the GDI as a betrayal of the Brotherhood of Nod’s principles.
Assassination
Slavik does not hold onto power for long.
Brother Marcion, the future leader of the Black Hand, organises his assassination. Slavik is killed just a few years after the C.A.B.A.L. crisis, ushering in a new period of fragmentation for Nod.
Kane would later exploit Marcion’s guilt to bring him back into his fold and rebuild Nod once more.
Personality
Slavik is characterised above all by his absolute loyalty to Kane, his authority and his military pragmatism. Unlike many Nod leaders who took advantage of Kane’s disappearances to pursue their own ambitions, Slavik remained convinced for a long time that the Prophet would return.
He is, however, capable of pragmatism when a greater threat arises. His temporary alliance with the GDI against C.A.B.A.L. shows that he knows how to prioritise Nod’s survival over ideological conflict when circumstances demand it.
