The Asia-Pacific Alliance, commonly referred to by the acronym APA, is a coalition of Asian nations organised around China and a reunified Korea. It was intended to be one of the three major factions in Command & Conquer: Generals 2, alongside the European Union and the GLA.

Its origins can be traced directly back to the events of Zero Hour. After liberating Europe from the GLA, China gradually replaced the United States as the world’s leading power and forged closer ties with European nations.

This cooperation gave rise to the Eurasian Unity League, an economic and military alliance uniting China and Europe within a new international order dominated by Beijing.

However, this alliance did not last. For reasons that have never been made clear, relations between China and Europe deteriorated and the League eventually fell apart.

China then turns to its Asian neighbours and forms the Asia-Pacific Alliance, notably including a now-reunified Korea and Vietnam.

In its early days, the APA remains a fragile coalition, undermined by internal divisions and rebel movements.

Chinese General Xiao ‘Taskmaster’ Ri, a veteran of the first war against the GLA, plays a decisive role in its consolidation. He cracks down on dissidents, drives rebels out of Alliance territories and imposes stability, whatever the cost.

Thanks to this authoritarian policy, the APA gradually transformed itself into a global superpower and dominated the geopolitical scene virtually unchallenged for a decade.

However, this long period of peace eventually leads to a certain degree of stagnation. Whilst the APA retains immense military power, the new European Union is rapidly militarising and gaining the upper hand in several technological fields.

In 2023, the global balance of power begins to crumble. Europe adopts an increasingly expansionist policy, whilst violent uprisings break out in several satellite states of both the APA and the EU.

The re-formed GLA is suspected of being behind these rebellions, but some accounts suggest the use of weapons far more advanced than those normally available to an underground organisation.

These events lead to the Second War against the GLA, which was intended to form the main backdrop of Generals 2.

Militarily, the APA draws on the spirit of China from the first Generals: relatively inexpensive units, large armies and a massive concentration of firepower, with technological progression centralised around a dedicated headquarters.

Its arsenal was to combine units inherited from China - Red Guards, Gatling Tanks, Overlords and Helix- with new equipment such as the Warlords, Thunderfists, Fireflies, Mantis and Shadow Tanks.

The faction was also to feature numerous specialist generals, including Xiao ‘Taskmaster’ Ri, Chang ‘Red Arrow’ Dongmei, Pham ‘Inferno’ ’ Quan, Zhu ‘Blackjack’ Guozhi, Park ‘The Beast’ Kang-Dae and Ma ‘1000 Suns’ Shen, each developing a particular variant of the APA’s doctrine.

The Asia-Pacific Alliance was thus intended to represent the direct successor to the China of Generals: a coalition born of China’s victory over the GLA, which had become the world’s leading power thanks to its military strength, but was now faced with a technologically superior Europe and the return of the enemy it thought it had defeated.
