Status: Deceased, executed in 2047.Killian Qatar was one of the Brotherhood of Nod’s leading military commanders during the Third Tiberium War. A brilliant, charismatic and ruthless tactician, she became Kane’s second-in-command and one of his most valuable military assets. Her faith in the Brotherhood is deep, but her critical view of some of Kane’s decisions ultimately places her at the centre of a plot that will bring about her downfall.
A Nod General
Qatar rose through the ranks thanks to her strategic talents and became a member of the Inner Circle. Kane placed great trust in her and regarded her as one of the Brotherhood’s finest commanders.
In particular, she devised the plan to destroy the GDSS Philadelphia: to neutralise the GDI’s anti-satellite defences in order to enable a nuclear strike against the orbital station. This attack decapitated a large part of the GDI’s command structure and effectively triggered the Third Tiberium War.
Doubts about Kane’s strategy
As the war progresses, however, Qatar begins to grow concerned about Kane’s extremely aggressive strategy. She believes that Nod is taking excessive risks and also discovers that her leader is concealing certain key details of his plans from her, particularly regarding liquid Tiberium.
This criticism does not mean she rejects the Brotherhood of Nod: Qatar continues to affirm her faith in Nod. But her attitude is interpreted as a threat by Alexa Kovacs, who is fanatically devoted to Kane and convinced that the general is seeking to undermine his authority.
The Fabricated Betrayal
Alexa therefore decides to compromise Qatar. She orders LEGION to pose as forces under the General’s command and attack Temple Prime. Legions is also tasked with stealing the blueprints for the ionic disruption generators and passing them on to the GDI in order to create seemingly irrefutable evidence of her treason.
Qatar is therefore the victim of a conspiracy: the attack on Kane’s forces, for which she will later be blamed, was in fact orchestrated by Alexa and carried out by LEGION.
At the helm of the Brotherhood of Nod
When Temple Prime is destroyed by the GDI’s Ion Cannon and Kane is presumed dead, Qatar temporarily takes charge of Nod.
However, the simultaneous arrival of the Scrin completely upends the war. Viewing the alien invasion as a greater threat than the conflict with the GDI, Qatar sets aside the doctrine of Ascension and negotiates a ceasefire with the GDI so that both organisations can fight the invaders.
This decision deeply divides Nod and reinforces the suspicions of those who already doubt its loyalty.
Kane’s return and execution
Kane finally reappears alive and immediately rejects the alliance with the GDI. Following the destruction of GDI forces in Sydney, he orders his Commander to capture Qatar at her base at Ayers Rock, in Australia.
The general is arrested and then executed for high treason on the basis of the accumulated charges against her and Ajay’s ambiguous testimony.
The truth only comes to light later: Qatar had been set up by Alexa Kovacs. When he learns of her innocence,Kane flies into a violent rage, realising that he has had one of his best Commanders executed on the basis of a set-up.
Qatar is an intelligent, confident and pragmatic tactician. Her loyalty to Nod is genuine, but she does not blindly obey Kane and is capable of questioning his decisions when she believes they are needlessly endangering the Brotherhood of Nod.
Paradoxically, this independence is her main political weakness. Alexa interprets her criticism as heresy and manages to portray her pragmatism as an act of treason.
