Status: Deceased shortly before the Firestorm conflict.Umagon is one of the most formidable fighters among the Forgotten and Tratos’s loyal protégée. A Commando and sniper transformed by heavy exposure to Tiberium, she plays a vital role in the alliance between the mutants and the GDI during the Second Tiberium War. Fiercely independent, she regularly reminds Cdr. McNeil that she is not fighting for the GDI, but to secure the future of her own people.

A warrior of the Forgotten

Umagon is one of the humans whose body has been profoundly altered by Tiberium. Unlike ordinary humans, this mutation enables her, in particular, to regenerate upon contact with Tiberium. She becomes one of The Forgotten’s finest warriors, an excellent hand-to-hand fighter but, above all, a formidable sniper.

She is also one of the people closest to Tratos, the spiritual and political leader of the mutants. He places great trust in her, and she acts, in particular, as his bodyguard.

Encounter with Cdr. McNeil

During the Second Tiberium War, Umagon enters the immense alien spacecraft that had been recovered and subsequently abandoned by General Vega’s forces. It is inside this vessel that Cdr. McNeil and Chandra encounter her.

The encounter begins on a hostile note, but Umagon possesses information that the GDI desperately needs: she knows the emplacement of Vega’s main base.

She then proposes a deal to Cdr. McNeil:the GDI must free Tratos, who is being held prisoner by Nod, and in return the Forgotten will reveal Vega’s location. McNeil agrees.

Tratos’s Rescue

Tratos is being held in a Nod medical complex in Mexico where experiments are being carried out on mutants.

Umagon takes a direct part in the rescue operation alongside a team from The Forgotten, including a Ghost Stalker and a Mutant Hijacker. The Commando unit frees Tratos and facilitates his evacuation before GDI’s conventional forces destroy the Nod base.

Umagon then keeps his promise and reveals to the GDI the emplacement of the Vega base, situated on an island off the coast of Honduras. This cooperation marks the beginning of a genuine military alliance between the GDI and the Forgotten.

Alongside the GDI

Umagon subsequently becomes a sort of liaison between the Forgotten and the GDI. She regularly provides Cdr. McNeil with intelligence and takes a personal part in several operations.

In particular, she helps to locate a secret facility where Nod is building its experimental Banshee fighters. Thanks to the mutants’ ability to operate covertly, her group is able to pinpoint the facility before the GDI’s heavy forces intervene.

Her alliance with Cdr. McNeil remains conditional, however. Umagon never considers herself a GDI Soldier: she acts first and foremost for Tratos and The Forgotten.

Umagon and Cdr. McNeil

Sources also suggest a romantic attraction between Umagon and Cdr. McNeil. Their relationship, however, remains largely implied and is never developed into a full-fledged love story on screen.

Cdr. McNeil’s behaviour nevertheless shows how important she is to him, particularly when she eventually falls into Kane’s hands.

Captured by Kane

Towards the end of the war, Umagon is captured by Nod and taken to Kane’s headquarters in Cairo.

Kane reveals his ultimate plan to her: to use his Global Alteration Missile to transform the entire Earth into a Tiberium-dominated environment, giving rise to a new form of humanity capable of living in this transformed world.

Umagon herself becomes a test subject.

Kane subjects her to the process of Divination, a technology using processed Tiberium to artificially induce and control human mutation. He intends to make Umagon one of the first representatives of this new Tiberium-adapted race.

The Assault on Cairo

When Cdr. McNeil learns of her capture, he decides to attack Kane’s headquarters in Cairo, going so far as to override General Solomon’s reservations.

Cdr. McNeil finally reaches Kane, who is using Umagon as a human shield. She manages, however, to break free during the confrontation.

Cdr. McNeil then confronts Kane directly and eventually impales him with a piece of debris. He then retrieves Umagon and the Tacitus before leaving the Pyramid of Nod.

The Second Tiberium War thus ends in victory for the GDI.

Tratos’s Antimutagen

Unfortunately, the victory comes too late for Umagon.

The Divination process has already profoundly altered her body. To prevent the mutations from progressing, Tratos administers an experimental antimutagen that he has developed.

The treatment fails catastrophically.

Instead of curing her, it triggers an uncontrolled mutation. Umagon’s physical and mental state deteriorates to such an extent that she must be confined to a padded cell and restrained in a straitjacket.

Death

Umagon is believed to have died shortly before the start of the Firestorm conflict. Firestorm confirms that Tratos’s treatment failed and that her mutation had brought her to a terminal stage.

Her death also represents a devastating personal failure for Tratos. He had devoted a significant portion of his research to finding a way to control or cure the mutations caused by Tiberium. Yet his own treatment ultimately worsened the condition of his most loyal protégée.

Personality

Umagon is a proud, independent, aggressive and extremely loyal fighter to The Forgotten. Her cooperation with the GDI is based on shared interests rather than any submission to its command.

In particular, she despises the way non-mutated humans view her people and emphasises the honour of The Forgotten. Despite this initial mistrust, she eventually develops a deep respect for Cdr. McNeil and becomes one of his most important allies during the war.
