Dasha Fedorovich is a Soviet intelligence officer responsible for logistics and communications between the Soviet Union’s key leaders and commanders during the Third World War. She subsequently became one of the central figures in the resistance against the Allied occupation.
Dasha came from a poor family of ten children, all of whom volunteered for the Soviet armed forces. She quickly distinguished herself as the most talented of her siblings.
Her abilities eventually caught the attention of Premier Anatoly Cherdenko, who brought her into the upper echelons of the Soviet military apparatus.
Red Alert 3
During the Third World War, Dasha held a key position within the Kremlin.
She was one of the main liaisons between the Soviet government and the commanders deployed on the various fronts, relaying intelligence, orders and strategic information.
She works directly with Cherdenko and initially shows him profound loyalty, going so far as to address him with a deference rarely seen amongst other members of the Soviet command.
At the same time, Dasha becomes the principal intelligence officer assigned to the Soviet Commander, whom she accompanies throughout his rise to power.
This relationship gradually grows in importance. Whilst Cherdenko sinks into paranoia and begins to view his own generals as potential threats, Dasha, on the contrary, develops an ever-stronger loyalty to the Commander.
In particular, she continues to ensure operations run smoothly when the Soviet command is disrupted. During the attack on Cherdenko prior to the Mykonos operation, Dasha decides that the war must continue and personally relays her instructions to the Commander to capture the Allied research.
The data recovered during this operation subsequently enables the Soviets to develop the Vacuum Imploder, one of their most powerful weapons.
In the Soviet campaign, however, the Commander’s military successes eventually provoke Cherdenko’s jealousy and fear.
The First, having become extremely suspicious, finally decides to eliminate the man who has nevertheless become his finest Commander.
This betrayal marks a turning point for Dasha.
Although she had served Cherdenko with great loyalty until then, she now considers the Premier to have lost his mind and chooses to side with the Soviet Commander.
Following Cherdenko’s defeat and the Soviet victory over the Allies in this branch of the campaign, Dasha personally congratulates the Commander and informs him that the people now wish to see him become the new Premier of the Soviet Union.
However, this conclusion is not the one adopted for the events of Uprising, which are based on an Allied victory in the Third World War.
Uprising - From Officer to Resistance Fighter
Following on from Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 – Uprising, the Allied Forces have won the war.
The Soviet Union has been defeated, its leaders imprisoned, and its territory placed under Allied occupation.
Dasha, however, faces a different fate.
Although she worked at the heart of the Soviet military apparatus, she is technically considered a civilian. This distinction allows her to evade capture when the Allies dismantle the regime.
She therefore refuses to accept the demise of the Soviet Union.
Taking advantage of the fact that the Allies were simultaneously having to manage the Soviet occupation and the demilitarisation of the Empire of the Rising Sun, Dasha rallied patriots, former military personnel and sympathisers to form a clandestine organisation: the Soviet Resistance, or Soviet Underground.
From being an Officer tasked with relaying orders, she thus became the political and operational leader of a genuine insurrectionary movement.
The Resistance retains access to a significant portion of the former Soviet arsenal, but is sorely lacking in resources and personnel. Dasha therefore accepts virtually anyone who is still willing to fight to restore the Soviet Union.
She soon receives the support of a Soviet Commander, whom she gratefully welcomes into the movement.
The FutureTech Threat
The Resistance quickly discovers that the Allied presence on Soviet territory conceals far more worrying activities.
Several Soviet scientists mysteriously disappear. Dasha suspects they are being held in a research centre in Transylvania and orders the Commander to investigate.
The facility is eventually found to be linked to FutureTech, whose researchers are forcing the captured scientists to participate in the development of new military technologies.
Dasha’s investigations gradually reveal that FutureTech is conducting its own operations on Soviet territory, independently of the objectives officially stated by the Allied Forces.
The situation becomes particularly serious when another clandestine facility is discovered in Russia.
Soviet forces discover there that FutureTech is using civilians as test subjects for its cryogenic technologies.
Dasha reacts with unusual violence: she deploys several Kirovs to raze the facility to the ground.
The investigation ultimately leads the Resistance to FutureTech’s true project: the Sigma Harmoniser.
This machine can manipulate time on a vast scale. Rupert Thornley intends to use it against the Soviets, directly threatening their future. Dasha then realises that the very survival of her people depends on the destruction of the facility.
She entrusts the Commander with the final assault on the FutureTech complex.
The Resistance finally manages to neutralise the project, putting an end to Thornley’s plans. In the wake of the revelations about FutureTech and the events that follow, the Allied Forces begin to withdraw from Soviet territory as a gesture of goodwill.
But for Dasha, this is not the end of the fight.
She sees this victory as the beginning of the Soviet Union’s rebirth.
A unique evolution amongst the Soviet characters
Dasha thus follows a rather unusual path in Red Alert 3.
She begins as a civil servant utterly loyal to Cherdenko’s regime, tasked with running the vast Soviet military machine. But her allegiance seems to gradually shift from the regime itself to those she considers truly capable of defending the Soviet Union.
In the Soviet campaign, this evolution leads her to support the Commander against Cherdenko when the latter betrays his own General.
In the Allied storyline leading up to Uprising, she goes even further: the Soviet government has all but ceased to exist, yet Dasha continues the fight without it.
She thus evolves from a servant of Soviet power to a Guardian of the Soviet ideal.
