Status: Deceased, tortured by Gideon.Johann Pascal is a prodigy and controversial scientist whose research plays a key role in the events leading up to the Kane Ascension. A scientific adviser to Idris Corporation and later the founder of Pascal Labs, he used knowledge derived from the Tacitus to develop a series of optical implants directly linked to the Tiberium Control Network.
A controversial scientist
Regarded as a Prodigy since his teenage years, Pascal also acquired a controversial reputation at a very early age. His skills caught the attention of Elias Caruso, CEO of Idris Corporation, who personally invited him to join the company as a scientific adviser.
Following Caruso’s death in 2074, Evelyn Rios took over the leadership of the organisation. Pascal remained a key figure within the company and sought, in particular, to uphold the scientific ideals championed by Caruso.
Pascal Labs and the implants
Pascal founded his own company, Pascal Labs, and continued his research with Kane’s help. Drawing on knowledge derived from the Tacitus, his teams developed five experimental optical implants.
Officially capable, amongst other things, of restoring sight, these implants serve a far more significant purpose: their technology provides the key to interacting with the Tiberium Control Network and, ultimately, to activating the process necessary for Kane’s Ascension.
One of the recipients is Commander Parker, who has gone blind. His wife, Lillian Parker, a close friend of Pascal’s, remains by his side throughout the implantation procedure.
A piece of Kane’s plan
Pascal realises that his work extends far beyond the medical sphere. In collaboration with Kane, he helps to make the implants an essential part of the plan to exploit the global Tiberium network and reach the final Threshold Tower.
The five Carryalls thus become extremely important. Parker, in particular, ends up being the final piece Kane needs to achieve his objective.
Capture and death
Pascal’s research eventually attracts the attention of Gideon, leader of the Nod Separatists opposed to Kane.
Pascal is captured and tortured to death. Even whilst being tortured, however, his implants continue to transmit what he sees directly to Kane, allowing the Prophet to observe events from a distance.
His death therefore does not put an end to his legacy: the implants he created remain at the heart of the events leading to the activation of the network and the Ascension.
