Originally, Idris was not an independent company but the GDI’s public works division, charged in particular with building and maintaining the Blue Zones prior to the Third Tiberium War.

After the war, faced with the uncontrolled spread of Tiberium, the GDI agreed to the unthinkable: cooperation with Kane on the Tiberium Control Network(TCN) project.

The division then underwent considerable expansion, as it was given responsibility for building and maintaining this vast global network designed to control Tiberium.

However, growing tensions between the GDI and Nod threatened the project. In order to preserve its neutrality, the Council decided the following year to transform the division into an independent company and to entrust its management to a figure from outside both camps.

The choice fell on Elias Caruso, a respected developer and Engineer who had played a part in the vast reconstruction efforts following the Third Tiberium War.

Caruso had notably founded New Eden, a model city intended to demonstrate that genuine reconstruction was still possible. But in 2052, the spread of a Tiberium field in Northern Europe engulfed the city.

Deeply affected by this failure, Caruso became convinced that the eradication of Tiberium was an essential condition for the survival of humanity. This determination led the Council to entrust him with Idris.

Among his first decisions was the recruitment of the controversial Dr Johann Pascal, a young scientific prodigy who became one of the TCN programme’s principal advisers.

Despite repeated attacks by the Nod separatists and disagreements between the two major powers, Idris manages to keep the work going and even regularly acts as a mediator between the GDI and Nod.

The company quickly takes on enormous economic significance. By 2064, Caruso enjoyed great popularity with both the government and the public, whilst a considerable proportion of citizens now worked for Idris.

The completion of the first phase of the TCN made it possible to decontaminate vast regions. However, these territories remain largely uninhabitable after several decades of devastation caused by Tiberium.

Caruso then expanded Idris’s mission to what he called ‘environmental reimagination’, in other words, a vast terraforming project.

By harnessing the capabilities of the TCN, Idris transforms the formerly devastated lands into artificial environments inspired by the Earth before Tiberium, gradually enabling humanity to recolonise these regions.

This reconstruction, however, attracts criticism: some denounce the artificial and highly organised nature of Idris’s landscapes, whilst environmentalist groups criticise the project for covering up the damage rather than genuinely restoring the original ecosystems. The population, however, has welcomed these new habitable territories very warmly.

Caruso never lived to see the completion of his project. Weakened by several strokes in the early 2070s, he died of a cerebral aneurysm in 2074.

Management then passed to Evelyn Rios, the former director of operations, whilst Johann Pascal became the principal Guardian of Caruso’s vision.

Idris’s success gave Rios considerable political influence and contributed to her election as Secretary-General of the GDI Council, a position from which she continued to support Pascal’s projects and those of the company.

Idris Corporation thus becomes much more than a mere construction firm: born within the GDI to preserve the Blue Zones, having become independent to build the TCN, it ultimately plays a direct part in the reconstruction of a Tiberium-free Earth.

The name ‘Idris’ refers to Enoch in Islamic tradition, a figure associated with the Ascension. The official documentation itself established this connection, which is particularly evocative in a universe where Kane’s Ascension represents the culmination of Nod’s history.
