Eva Lee is an American Lieutenant and an intelligence Officer with the Allied Forces during the Third World War. Reporting to General Ben Carville, she is assigned to the Allied Commander and becomes his principal liaison with the high command during the war against the Soviet Union.

Her role involves presenting operational objectives, analysing intelligence gathered and keeping the Commander informed of developments on the ground.

But Eva does not merely pass on orders from her superiors: she also conducts her own research, gathers information likely to assist the Commander and does not hesitate to add her personal observations to official briefings.

A brilliant intelligence officer

According to her biography, Eva is said to have been major of her class at West Point.

When Alexander Romanov’s Soviet Union launches its surprise invasion of the United States, the Allied military situation immediately becomes catastrophic.

The Soviets manage to eliminate virtually all available Allied commanders.

Only one field commander remains operational.

Eva Lee is then assigned to him.

‘The only commander still alive’

Eva meets the Commander just as the United States activates the Lazarus emergency protocol.

She introduces herself as the intelligence Officer assigned to his command and makes him realise the scale of the disaster: he is now the last remaining Allied Commander.

This temporary assignment ultimately lasts for the duration of the war.

Eva accompanies the Commander during the defence of the United States, then during the Allied counter-offensive against the Soviet Union.

As the missions progress, a relationship of trust develops between them. Eva generally maintains a professional demeanour, but she regularly allows herself to make more personal remarks and adopts a much less formal tone than one would expect from a mere military operator.

Eva assists the Commander during the key stages of the Third World War.

In particular, she helps to provide him with intelligence on new Soviet units and technologies, on the activities of Yuri and his Psionic Corps, and on the progress of military operations.

The war takes on an even more worrying dimension as the Allies gradually realise the significance of the mind-control technologies developed by Yuri.

Yuri is officially Romanov’s chief adviser and heads the Soviet Psychic Corps, but his influence over the regime is such that he gradually emerges as the man who actually controls a large part of Soviet power.

Eva therefore becomes one of the Commander’s main sources of information on this new threat.

The Death of Carville

One of the events that particularly affects Eva is the death of General Ben Carville.

Carville is her superior and one of the leading American military figures. The Soviets use Crazy Ivans to carry out an assassination attempt on him.

His death is a considerable loss to the Allied command.

Eva personally breaks the news to the Commander and reminds him that Carville was convinced he would be the one to ultimately lead the Allies to victory.

The war continues despite this loss.

The Commander eventually repels the Soviet invasion, takes the war onto enemy territory and becomes the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during the final assault on Moscow.

Romanov is defeated.

But Yuri escapes the Allies.

And the victory lasts only a few weeks.

Yuri's Revenge

Around two months after the end of the Third World War, Eva and the rest of the high command discover that Yuri has secretly built up his own army.

Romanov’s former adviser has installed psychic Dominators across the globe and intends to use them to bring the entire population of Earth under his control.

Eva then informs President Michael Dugan that a DEFCON 2 alert has been triggered.

However, the Allies have a way of preventing this catastrophe:Albert Einstein’s time machine.

Back in time

Eva is part of the team accompanying Tanya Adams to the time machine.

The plan is to travel back in time and intervene before Yuri can activate his global network of Psychic Dominators.

This time travel thus creates a second version of the Third World War.

Eva resumes her post as an intelligence officer and immediately takes up her role again under the Allied Commander.

This new timeline, however, has one major difference.

General Carville is now alive.

As the Allies have travelled back in time armed with their knowledge of the future, certain catastrophic events from the first timeline can be averted.

Eva is therefore reunited with her former superior and continues to work alongside him during the campaign against Yuri.

The War Against Yuri's Army

Eva accompanies the Commander during operations aimed at destroying the Psychic Dominators and the main installations of Yuri's Army.

In particular, she analyses the enemy’s new psychic weapons.

When she presents the Mastermind, for example, she essentially describes the machine as a huge mobile brain capable of mentally taking control of anything that comes near it, and very clearly advises the Commander not to approach it.

Her role therefore remains that of an intelligence analyst directly integrated into military operations.

But Yuri eventually realises that Eva also represents a vulnerability.

Under Yuri’s control

Following the destruction of Yuri’s cloning facilities in Sydney, he sets out to discover where the Allies and the Soviets intend to sign their cooperation treaty.

He then establishes a direct psychic link with Eva.

Despite her military training, Eva obviously has no adequate defence against Yuri’s powers.

She tries to resist, but he takes control of her mind.

Under duress, Eva reveals to him that the conference is to take place in London.

Yuri now has the information he needs to attack the meeting and attempt to prevent the formation of a global coalition against him. After passing on the information, Eva collapses.

The Commander nevertheless manages to defend London and prevent Yuri from destroying the alliance between the two former superpowers.

Eva’s resignation

For Eva, the incident is desolating.

Even though she was under psychic control and could not actually prevent Yuri from extracting the information from her, she considers that she has compromised a vital military operation.

After the Commander’s return, Eva therefore hands in her resignation.

Carville categorically refuses.

The General makes it clear to her that she cannot be held responsible for information revealed whilst Yuri was directly controlling her mind.

Eva finally agrees to remain in her post.

This episode is probably one of the most important passages to expand upon in the profile: it is one of the rare moments when Eva ceases to be merely the Officer who briefs the player on the situation and truly becomes a character personally involved in the plot.

The final assault on Yuri

Eva therefore resumes her duties for the final phase of the war.

The Allies and the Soviets launch a joint offensive against Yuri’s last stronghold in Antarctica.

The Commander leads this international force and finally destroys the last defences of Yuri's Army.

Yuri is captured and stripped of his ability to use his psychic powers.

The crisis comes to an end.

But the workings of the time machine then cause the two timelines to merge.

Eva, Tanya and the Commander

The conclusion of Yuri's Revenge introduces one final, rather amusing twist to the story.

In the original timeline of Red Alert 2, Tanya appears to have developed a special relationship with the Commander.

After the victory over Yuri, she naturally prepares to accompany him to the celebrations organised at the White House.

But when the two timelines merge, a new development emerges.

Eva Lee is also dressed for the evening and urges the Commander to hurry. Tanya is clearly surprised, as this closeness between Eva and the Commander did not exist in this way in her original timeline.

The game deliberately leaves the love triangle unresolved.

It is therefore unclear whether the Commander chooses Eva, Tanya… or whether he simply manages to survive the situation.

After Yuri's Revenge

Eva’s fate following Yuri’s defeat is unknown.

Eva Lee and E.V.A.>
Eva Lee is thefirst human character named Eva in the Command & Conquer series*.

This choice appears to be a nod to E.V.A., the iconic computer interface of the Tiberium saga.

The tradition was subsequently continued with other characters responsible for communications or intelligence, notably Eva McKenna in Red Alert 3.

Another interesting fact: Eva Lee is played by Athena Massey, who had previously played Brink in Tiberian Sun.
