Status: Alive at the time of known events Jade Liang is a former GDI scientist who became a Commander of the Brotherhood of Nod. The sister of Dr Liang, she shares a past with him that is directly linked to Tiberium: both were accidentally contaminated during scientific research, but chose radically different methods to deal with the consequences of this exposure.
Jade initially worked as a scientist alongside her brother Liang. During their research, an accident exposed them both to raw Tiberium.
Liang chose to have his contaminated arm amputated to prevent the substance from spreading throughout his body. Jade rejects this solution and keeps the Tiberium Crystals embedded in her body.
She gradually discovers that her body seems capable of tolerating the contamination, with the Tiberium Crystals remaining relatively stable rather than rapidly causing the mutations normally associated with prolonged exposure.
Break with the GDI
This fundamental difference contributes to driving a wedge between the two scientists.
Whilst Liang remains in the service of the GDI and devotes her research to medical technologies and drones, Jade eventually leaves the organisation and joins Nod.
Her time with the Brotherhood allows her to exploit the destructive properties of Tiberium much more freely. She gradually moves away from her role as a mere Seeker to become a full-fledged Commander.
The Catalyst Missile
On the battlefield, Jade uses a weapon directly based on her area of expertise: the Catalyst Missile.
This weapon is designed to react with the Tiberium present in the targeted area. Its effectiveness therefore increases considerably when it strikes contaminated units or sectors.
This ability perfectly reflects Jade’s philosophy: unlike her brother, who seeks to limit the damage caused by Tiberium, she learns to turn this substance into a weapon.
Jade and Liang
Jade and her brother thus represent two opposing paths stemming from the same accident.
Liang chooses to remove the Tiberium from his body and remains loyal to the GDI, developing technologies designed in particular to heal and protect its Soldiers. Jade accepts her contamination and joins Nod, where she harnesses the crystal’s military potential.
Their opposition therefore goes beyond their membership of two enemy factions: it illustrates two radically different views of Tiberium, seen by one as a danger to be controlled and by the other as a power to be harnessed.
Personality
Jade is a scientist who has become bold, aggressive and fascinated by the possibilities offered by Tiberium. Her decision to retain the crystals present in her body already demonstrates her willingness to take risks that her brother deems unacceptable.
Her time with Nod ultimately enabled her to combine her scientific knowledge with a far more offensive approach, making her an expert in the use of Tiberium as a weapon.
