General Ta Hun Kwai is an officer in the People’s Liberation Army specialising in armoured warfare and the large-scale deployment of main battle tanks.

A member of the PLA’s old guard, he is convinced that China’s greatest military victories of the 21st century will be won by his armoured divisions.

Kwai is a fervent disciple of Soviet mechanised warfare tactics developed during the Cold War, which he studies and adapts to the needs of the modern Chinese army.

He has published several works on these doctrines and has, in particular, developed techniques designed to reduce the cost of tank production, so as to be able to deploy ever-larger armoured formations.

He also sponsors the Emperor programme, the first tanks from which rolled off the production lines in 2013.

At the age of 51, Kwai commands his forces from Rat Base in Jinan, and has racked up victory after victory despite methods sometimes considered outdated by younger Officers.

His doctrine is based on massive frontal assaults, relying mainly on Battlemasters, Gatling Tanks and Dragons, which are produced at a lower cost.

His most powerful unit is the Emperor tank, an upgraded version of the Overlord that comes equipped with a Gatling turret as standard and boasts superior performance.

However, this specialisation comes at the expense of the rest of his arsenal: his infantry and air force are more expensive, whilst he has no genuine long-range Artillery units.

In the Generals’ Challenge, Kwai logically sets up his base in a vast open steppe, the ideal terrain for manoeuvring large formations of armoured vehicles.

Confident to the point of arrogance in the superiority of his tanks, he favours brute force over complex strategies.

Ta Hun Kwai thus embodies the Chinese armoured doctrine in its purest form: to produce more tanks, advance en masse and crush the enemy under their tracks.
