Arguably the most powerful weapon in the Allied arsenal, the Mirage Tank combines its formidable firepower with a High Technology camouflage system – the perfect combination for a Sleeper Ambush on Soviet armoured divisions attempting to cross international borders without permission. Although this vehicle is based on French tank chassis and an original weapon design, it was the military research firm FutureTech Corporation that refined its distinctive features and succeeded in integrating them in a successful and cost-effective manner. An ongoing partnership with the Allies led to the mass production of the Mirage Tank, despite bitter protests from the Soviet Union and threats of large-scale retaliation.

The Mirage Tank is the Allies’ most formidable Tank Hunter and continues to baffle, frustrate and, some say, even terrify the Soviet forces that are constantly invading Allied territories.

The name ‘Mirage Tank’ refers to the effect caused by its on-board reactive camoscanner technology, which envelops the vehicle in a special Cloaking Field. To the naked eye, the Mirage Tank resembles something commonplace and ordinary in its surroundings, such as a tree or a milk lorry, or even a smaller object like a lamppost. Even when examined closely on Radar Upgrade, the Mirage Tank is completely invisible. Consequently, the camoscanner allows Mirage Tank operators to blend into their surroundings, evade enemy forces or set up a Sleeper Ambush… provided they remain stationary and do not fire their main armament. These restrictions are necessary to reduce heat signatures and conserve energy; otherwise, enemy forces would be able to detect the camouflaged Mirage Tank on short-range radar. The number of times camouflaged Mirage Tanks have successfully defeated Soviet armoured divisions continues to rise, to such an extent that it no longer seems possible to keep an accurate tally of their successes (partly because Soviet ministers have now taken to blaming any incidents resulting in the destruction of their forces on Mirage Tank Sleeper Ambushes.

Above: A Mirage Tank prototype before it was fitted with its Spectral cannon. The number of Mirage Tanks currently in active service is a highly classified secret. The Soviet Minister of National Defence claimed that these vehicles appear to be so numerous that “it made the hairs on his arms stand on end”.

The camouflage projectors would be of limited value were it not for the Mirage Tank’s main weapon, the Spectral dispersion cannon. Essentially a militarised version of L.A.S.E.R. technology, the Spectral cannon concentrates and amplifies light waves to form an extremely destructive (albeit short-range) burst of high-energy photons, which can easily cut through any known substance. What is more, the Spectral cannon’s energy spreads across its targets by reflecting off nearby forces, making it easier for a small group of Mirage Tanks to hold their own against numerically superior armoured divisions. Apart from its limited range, the only other limitation of the Spectral cannon is that it must be firmly mounted on the Mirage Tank’s chassis. Fortunately, Mirage Tanks are manoeuvrable enough to be able to turn quickly to face most armoured forces.

As if that weren’t enough, Mirage Tanks have another remarkable trick up their sleeve in the form of their Stealth Generator, used to reverse the camo-projector’s field onto nearby Allied Forces carrying the appropriate transmitters.Whilst the Mirage Tanks cannot disguise themselves or use their weapons whilst the Stealth Generator is active, they are capable of concealing small armies in this way, causing enemy forces to severely underestimate their numbers.

The sophisticated systems on the Mirage Tank require years of training to master, and the tank sacrifices heavy armour in favour of mobility and its Camouflage capabilities – though these can hardly be considered weaknesses.

Reconnaissance on the battlefield has at least revealed the following facts about the Mirage Tanks:

  • The Spectral Cannon– This extremely powerful weapon utilises a concentrated beam of high-energy photons capable of cutting through any known substance, whilst a fraction of the energy naturally reflects off nearby targets, damaging them in turn. The weapon’s short range is its only real limitation.

-Stealth Camouflage– When stationary, Mirage Tanks automatically take on the appearance of ordinary objects in their surroundings, which can lead enemy forces to make dangerous mistakes. Whilst camouflaged, Mirage Tank commanders have been ordered to remain at their positions at all times unless given specific orders to attack or granted general authorisation to engage the enemy on sight.

-Take care of the Stealth Generator- A single Mirage Tank can conceal a large number of nearby Allied Forces when using the Stealth Generator, which is extremely useful for transporting high-value forces whilst keeping the enemy guessing as to the number of units present. For example, Athena Cannons and IFV Multigunners are often seen working in tandem with the Mirage Tank’s Stealth Generator.

-Some restrictions apply - Whilst the Mirage Tank may be regarded as the saviour of an Allied army faced with the almost impossible task of defending itself against heavy Soviet armour, it does have a number of specific limitations, including a fairly high cost and vulnerability to enemy aircraft. Fortunately, Mirage Tanks are well-equipped to support other Allied Forces that can compensate for these shortcomings.
