Chief Animal Trainer Petrokov stared intently at the enormous fence, squinting against the glare of the morning sun. A few bears – war talons and fierce Soviet fighters – had begun to emerge from the cavern set into the eastern wall of the miniature city. Petrokov smiled as the largest of them, nicknamed ‘Borya’, emerged from the shelter only to collapse a few moments later once he’d found a suitable spot in the sun. Petrokov loved these bears, more than most of his colleagues and certainly more than any senior staff responsible for disrupting his peaceful existence on a regular basis. Their final choice would be his death, he thought to himself as he looked westwards, where construction of a new park had begun in earnest – much larger than the others and dug deeper into the frozen ground. It was far from over, as the digging machines had quickly unearthed skeletons in the pit, waiting to come back to life. Petrokov shivered involuntarily from the cold. Mammoths. Why did it have to be mammoths?

The Mammoth Tank is the brand-new and most powerful weapon in the Soviet Union’s makeshift but highly destructive arsenal.
How had the Soviet High Command come into possession of such beasts, and why did they suddenly have such a keen interest in arming these enormous creatures? It was all beyond him. It defied all logic, but the war had long since become surreal for men like Petrokov, who was not the authoritarian type. One thing was certain, however: he was going to need bigger spades.
Ever since temporal technology had been stabilised, emissaries from every superpower had been sent to forge relationships and establish mutually beneficial alliances. Despite taking every possible precaution, no Commander could have foreseen that a time portal would be controlled on the other side by a malevolent force bent on subjugating the whole of humanity. Because of this man who controlled the gateway and is now stranded in prehistory, the besieged Allied and Soviet forces were forced to unite once again to escape the attack of prehistoric vermin sent to wipe them out. Having brought only a cache of weapons with them, the Allied and Soviet engineers were forced to make do with whatever resources were available.
Hidden in a makeshift base on a mountainside, the engineers and commanders wrestled with the idea of gaining ground by controlling these hostile creatures. With no means of communication, moving through the lush landscape would be almost impossible, and they would be unable to replenish their fuel supplies. Things looked grim for the trapped Soldiers, when the solution to their problem emerged from the jungle and made its way into their small makeshift fort. The mammoth knocked down a section of wall and shook its tusks to clear them of debris, trying to bite several Sickles as if they were children’s toys. After killing a few brave Conscripts and destroying an entire pallet of crates containing refurbished Terror Drones, the mammoth collapsed to the ground as the overdose of tranquillisers (carried in case of deviant behaviour by the bears) took effect. A park, a cloning centre, crew quarters and a training facility were quickly erected, and the battle against the past began in earnest.

Mammoth Tanks can naturally sense danger from afar and require far less maintenance (apart from shampooing) than conventional tanks.
The Mammoth Tank project is heralded by prehistorians as the first step towards re-establishing temporal control. Two enormous Apocalypse Tank guns are mounted on the mammoth’s back, combining all-terrain mobility with the heavy firepower for which the Union is renowned. Serrated tusks enable the mammoths to engage infantry and light vehicles at close range. With their long trunks, the mammoths can wade through water, enabling assault forces to drive the enemy back from the sea and secure a short-range naval foothold. Of course, the mammoth’s true power is only evident when the creature runs at full speed, becoming somewhat difficult for its handler to control, as it destroys everything in its path. With an army of such monsters, the Soviet-Allied alliance has successfully and significantly weakened the army of the past through heavy strikes.

Reconnaissance on the battlefield has at least revealed the following facts about the Mammoth Tanks:
- Local Training, Global Impact- Since control of the Portal was returned to the Allies, the training of the mammoths has been relocated to the Omsk Animal Training Complex. There, the mammoths can be trained in a controlled environment before being sent back in time to continue the fight.
-Charge!- The mammoth gains incredible momentum when moving in a straight line. If it builds up enough speed, it can strike small and medium-sized units and even crush small buildings.
-Up close- The mammoth’s powerful tusks are equipped with serrated spikes, allowing the creature to give a swift shake of its head to slice through any nearby units, whether ally or enemy.
-A natural - The mammoth’s thick coat makes it completely immune to all Allied Cryotechnology, whilst its long trunk allows it to grab Cryocopters and other aerial units whilst they are in the air. Note that the mammoth is unable to attack aircraft whilst swimming.
