When Shika Hiromoto, leader of the Cherry Blossom Party and daughter of Vice-Admiral Iwao Hiromoto, was found dead at her family’s magnificent estate in Hyogo Prefecture, the Empire of Japan appeared remarkably unperturbed. The nature of her death – a poisoned dagger, a haiku of vengeance written on the finest rice paper – simply suggested the hand of one of the Empire’s largest crime syndicates, but subsequent investigations revealed that the murder may have been motivated by Hiromoto’s opposition to one of the Empire’s most secret weapon systems: the Wave-Force Artillery. This state-of-the-art, long-range bombardment technology proved instrumental in the assault deep into Soviet territory, but was nonetheless highly controversial. Of course, these details have only recently come to light, and only after the Wave-Force Artillery had been successfully deployed in direct combat against an unsuspecting and – unfortunately for it – unprepared Soviet border base. At least now, the origins of this strange and catastrophic weapon are better understood.

The concentrated power of the Wave-Force particle beam can easily level an enemy structure or obliterate an enemy vehicle.
The result of a competition between two rival arms manufacturers, the Wave-Force Artillery is in many ways a marvel of technology. Supposedly inspired by the Empire’s famous anthem, the Wave-Force uses a powerful generator to harmonise the waveforms of heavy matter particles. As each molecule is aligned, the matter begins to resonate and soon this closed system takes on enormous destructive potential. At the point at which the system’s energy can no longer be contained within the supercapacitors, it is channelled into a powerful, long-range beam capable of splitting even the most common forms of matter. Chaos and devastation consume everything that comes into contact with this beam; however, the effects are so concentrated and precise that Wave-Force Artillery can be effectively used to minimise collateral damage where necessary.
This technology is said to have existed in research facilities for years, but engineers at Kanegawa Industries were the first to succeed in creating a version of the weapon capable of functioning effectively in the field. The energy weapon requires no bulky ammunition and needs recharging only infrequently thanks to a sophisticated energy recovery system. However, the delicate electronics require a clean environment and regular maintenance. The complex filtration system, the large power source and the intricate electronic components preclude the use of heavy armour to protect the platform, making the Wave-Force Artillery a powerful yet vulnerable weapon. The Empire of the Rising Sun naturally keeps these Artillery pieces in the rear, taking care to keep their lines of fire clear for friendly forces.

Variable-position capacitors allow the Wave-Force to fire rapid bursts at low power, slow salvos at very high power, or anything in between.
The competitor to the Wave-Force Artillery was a more traditional artillery piece designed by Shirada Naval Yards, based on the successful main armament of its Shogun-class battleship. The Shirada vehicle gained political backing after Kanegawa, in a moment of overzealousness and political insensitivity, referred to its Wave-Force technology as ‘The Divine Cauldron of Justice’. This struck the Emperor as an affront, in that no one but the Emperor could mete out divine justice against the enemies of the Empire of the Rising Sun. And at that moment, Shika Hiromoto, leader of the Cherry Blossom Party, became the leading voice against Wave-Force, urging the Empire of the Rising Sun to embrace its traditional roots rather than succumb to the “perverse temptations of anti-traditionalist and technological lust”. In the weeks leading up to her assassination, she publicly expressed her profound disagreement with her father-now a high-ranking Kanegawa official-much to the embarrassment of the entire Imperial Court. Her assassination seemed to sweep under the carpet a scandalous incident that the Empire needed to move past.
Following Hiromoto’s death, the leader of the opposition in Kanegawa had lost his voice. At the same time, a series of accidents involving the Shirada prototypes-allegedly due to calibration errors-undermined Shirada’s efforts, and shortly afterwards, the Wave-Force Artillery went into full-scale production – on the orders of the Emperor’s own son, the Crown Prince. Subsequent investigations suggested that Hiromoto’s assassin, and probably the calibration errors, had links to Kanegawa and specifically to his father, the Admiral; and, whilst there was no clear evidence, it seems unlikely that the events leading to the Imperial Army’s adoption of the Wave-Force Artillery were a coincidence.
And yet, despite all this, the Wave-Force is undeniably a successful design and was integral to the Empire of the Rising Sun’s ability to infiltrate deep into Soviet territory, across the vast expanses of Tesla Coils reputed to be indestructible. To this day, those who once criticised Wave-Force technology as being too exotic or unpredictable would find it difficult to dispute its performance record; and those who resist the Empire pray they never find themselves caught in its line of fire.

Reconnaissance on the battlefield has at least revealed the following facts about Wave-Force Artillery:
- Wave-Force Technology– Wave-Force technology is used to generate an enormous energy beam. The beam remains centred and travels over long distances, enabling the Wave-Force to take down any forces caught in its path.
-Firing Options- Variable-position capacitors allow the Wave-Force to fire at different energy levels. Crews are ordered to always fire at maximum capacity unless they have no other choice, as at full power the beam is a true Desolator on targets. Alternatively, a higher rate of fire can be maintained by firing the weapon before the capacitors are fully charged, allowing for a faster series of less powerful bursts.
-The Demolition Expert- The Wave-Force is ideally suited to the destruction of enemy structures, base defences and slow-moving vehicles. It is highly vulnerable to anti-armour infantry and aircraft, so Imperial commanders often deploy it to mop up any remaining threats after enemy forces have been scattered. Because faster vehicles can evade the Wave-Force’s Desolator fire, the unit is rarely seen without the support of a highly manoeuvrable Rising Sun strike force.
-Expensive - Wave-Force technology comes at a high price; this weapon appears to be considerably more expensive than its conventional counterparts, such as the Soviet V4 Rocket Launcher. However, its destructive potential is greater, and the Empire needs to utilise it; just a few of these units in any engagement can wreak havoc on enemy equipment or base defences.
