Suited to a lightweight hull typically used by the South American Coast Guard forces of the Allied Nations, the Allied Hydrofoil is a high-speed vessel designed for surveillance and defensive operations. It is equipped with a 20mm rapid-fire cannon system suitable for engaging enemy aircraft flying at low altitude, although its armament limits its effectiveness in anti-aircraft combat. However, the Hydrofoil gains in versatility thanks to its Scramblegun weapon jammer, an electromagnetic beam controlled by the Hydrofoil’s advanced computers and fuel reserves, which can temporarily disable the most common weapon systems on a nearby individual target. Thus, whilst the Hydrofoil is not equipped to repel a large-scale naval invasion, it can provide support alongside other Allied vessels.

Allied Hydrofoils offer an effective anti-aircraft solution, presented in an elegant package.

Today’s Hydrofoil was made famous in the Battle of Port-au-Prince, in which a small fleet of them managed to shoot down an entire squadron of MiG fighters before the MiGs could eliminate a regiment of Century Bombers carrying reinforcements to the city. Meanwhile, several Hydrofoils ceased fire to thwart a bombardment by Dreadnought battleships by driving them offshore. This was the first time a naval commander had deployed one group of hydrofoils dedicated exclusively to disrupting the firing capabilities of enemy ships and another to shred an air force. After the MiGs had been destroyed, the hydrofoils carried out a high-speed tactical retreat. The only naval losses that day were the groups of hydrofoils that were unfortunate enough to be sucked out of the water by the Soviets’ detestable Magnetic Satellite. It was widely reported that the hydrofoil’s performance that day was largely responsible for the increased number of Akula-class submarines in Soviet operations around the Gulf of Mexico.

Although the Hydrofoil is usually one of the first naval units deployed to the battlefield by many naval commanders, it is equipped with one of the most advanced technologies ever produced by the Allied nations: the Scramblegun weapon jammer. The Scramblegun’s electromagnetic force places heavy demands on all onboard weapon systems and is therefore mutually exclusive with the 20mm cannon. The jammer’s capability is potent enough to disable the weapon systems of ‘small’ vehicles such as the Sickle or ‘large’ vessels such as the Dreadnought. This enables the Hydrofoil to at least prevent a clash with most enemy naval units or armoured vehicles on the coastline, prompting a group of Guardian Tank and Apollo Fighter pilots to publicly ask why jamming technology has not been applied to Allied ground and air units. It appears that scientists are working hard to try and fit a second type of specialised weaponry onto each of their creations… For the time being, they will have to make do with what they have.

Researchers originally tried to fit two weapons onto the Hydrofoil, but were unable to find a suitable solution for the power consumption required.

Hydrofoil captains are most often former Coastguard officers, proud to defend the Allied nations, and are known for their composure when facing formidable enemy fleets. Although they often have to face enemy naval forces with relatively few resources, most Hydrofoil captains seem to relish the opportunity to engage directly with larger vessels – and to stop them effectively.

Reconnaissance on the battlefield has at least revealed the following facts about the Hydrofoils:

  • No flight zone- The Hydrofoil is equipped with a 20mm Icarnus heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun. Any enemy aerial unit entering the weapon’s effective range will swiftly come under precise and Desolator fire. Between the swivelling AA Turret and the Hydrofoil’s superior speed, retreating to land becomes a priority for enemy aircraft.

-The Scramblegun- Every Hydrofoil now comes as standard with its Scramblegun weapon jammer. This device disrupts the target vehicle’s weapon systems, thereby preventing it from attacking. This means that Hydrofoils can therefore use this system against land-based targets.

-Sonar on Submarines- Hydrofoil Captains spend much of their time scanning the skies; unfortunately for them, this means that Submarines such as the Soviet Akula can sometimes approach and destroy them without being detected. Because hydrofoils are extremely vulnerable whilst leading an attack, they sometimes travel under the protection of an Allied Assault Destroyer’s Blackhole Force Shield.

-Coastal support - Although hydrofoils are unable to travel on land (despite a number of failed attempts to create amphibious models), they have proven to be very useful as coastal support for land operations. Their anti-aircraft weapons are amongst the best in the entire Allied arsenal, and their Scrambleguns have sufficient range to engage targets inland.
