Too many brave men and women from the Allied Nations gave their lives in the war whilst serving their nations, families and friends. Although the Allies prevailed against the Soviet Union and the Empire of the Rising Sun, the price paid in human lives and material losses was very high. The Allies and all the nations of the world must now find a way to move beyond this, whilst cherishing the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. FutureTech Corporation, the Netherlands-based technology firm behind most of the Allies’ most advanced weapons, certainly appears to be making its contribution. After all, FutureTech is working tirelessly to put the finishing touches to an advanced computer-controlled tank, which promises to revolutionise future warfare by both deterring violent conflict and reducing the loss of human life. The public unveiling of the famous ‘Tank of the Future’ prototype is scheduled for next year, although initial reports are as detailed as they are promising.

Meet the Tank of the Future, the future of automated peacekeeping. It promises to be the largest and most intelligent component of the next generation of Allied Forces. (Early concepts of the Tank of the Future)

The Tank of the Future is based on technology developed by FutureTech and is powered by one of the Collider energy cells used in its most efficient transmissions and Power Plants. But unlike the military vehicles in the Allied arsenal, the Tank of the Future draws on the designs of the finest Soviet and Imperial vehicles. Specifically, with the Future Tank X-1 prototype, FutureTech sought to combine its finest expertise with the rugged durability and power of Soviet armoured vehicles, and with the advanced artificial intelligence found only in a few units of the Empire of the Rising Sun. The result is a marvel of High Technology engineering: an all-terrain vehicle that realises the long-sought-after dream of unmanned operation. Although this may seem incredible, a growing number of eyewitness accounts and field demonstrations continue to reinforce the idea that the Tank of the Future is truly capable of operating and ‘thinking’ for itself. It can even hold a conversation in over 14 different languages, although it is said that the M.A.D. Tank has a rather brusque personality.

Much has already been said about ethics and artificial intelligence, and FutureTech has anticipated concerns on this matter. Because the Tank of the Future is capable of making decisions without human intervention, and possesses some of the most powerful anti-armour weapons ever created, one can begin to imagine the kinds of precautions and security measures taken to ensure the Tank of the Future complies with international rules. To begin with, the Allied High Command and FutureTech possess instant access codes that can permanently disable one or all Future Tanks in a situation where radical action becomes necessary. More importantly, the Tanks of the Future are programmed with clear directives which they must obey at all times; these restrict their use of lethal force solely to situations in which they face a significant threat, and prevent the Tanks of the Future from crossing international borders without prior authorisation. These guidelines were co-developed by the administrators of the European Union International Peace Prize, the FutureTech Board of Directors and advisers to the Allied High Command, under the supervision of an international council for ethical software development. In any case, FutureTech claims that its latest vehicle is far less fallible than humans when it comes to combat judgement. The Tanks of the Future can distinguish between allies and enemies, thereby eliminating incidents of friendly fire, and are naturally immune to the stress and fatigue of the battlefield.

When you say “Jump!”, the Future Tank replies: “Unfortunately, I can’t”. That may be its only flaw.

The Future Tank X-1 prototype may seem too good to be true, and indeed, the vehicle is still under development. Currently, FutureTech is ironing out the remaining flaws concerning the Artificial Intelligence system, its propulsion and navigation systems, and its entire production process (the prototype is far too expensive to be mass-produced). But these kinds of problems seem relatively minor compared to the incredible achievements evident in the current version.

FutureTech has had a huge impact on the Allied war effort in the past, saving millions of lives. Judging by the progress demonstrated in the Future Tank X-1 programme, the best is yet to come.

Reconnaissance on the battlefield has at least revealed the following facts about the Future Tank X-1:

  • Neutron Jammers– The Future Tank’s two ‘arms’ are its main weapons: massive devices known as neutron jammers. Derived from Proton Collider technology, the neutron jammers fire concentrated spheres of energy that dissipate on impact, causing significant electrical and mechanical damage to any object within the blast radius. Allied Forces operating on encrypted frequencies are immune.

-Riot Control Laser- The Collider energy stack powering the Tank of the Future produces excess heat and energy, which is stored in special reservoirs that feed the neutron disruptors. By draining these reservoirs via a focused system, the Tank of the Future can launch a Desolator attack that is devastating and concentrated, with far greater power than any conventional shot.

-Tough as steel- The Tank of the Future is even more robust than the Allied Assault Destroyer. It can withstand a direct assault from virtually any known weapon. Its processing systems and weapons are particularly resistant to damage. It would take an overwhelming force to destroy a single Tank of the Future.

-Worth its weight in gold - As the Tank of the Future is still at the prototype stage, it is very expensive and only a handful of these units exist worldwide. Only FutureTech’s Harbinger Gunship comes close to matching its price. FutureTech will need to find a way to reduce its cost if it hopes to see the Tank of the Future replace modern tanks on the battlefield.
