Background

The Tiberium Wars lasted for decades, fuelled by constant advances in military science driven by the various factions seeking to prevail over a relentless enemy. The fighting took place on every conceivable terrain and in every corner of the planet. These conflicts involved a multitude of specialised combat teams, including the GDI’s Steel Talons, who are amongst the most highly decorated. The Steel Talons are equipped with heavily armoured gear, enabling them to engage the enemy directly, wherever they may be. Their straightforward methods require the use of the most robust weapon platforms and heavily armoured vehicles fitted with powerful weapons.

To this end, in the years leading up to the Third Tiberium War, the Steel Talons began developing the second generation of Titan walkers. The plans called for the use of cutting-edge robotic technology, with armour as hard as diamond and legs capable of traversing jungle, swamps and rocky terrain more easily than tracked vehicles. The result was the Titan Mk. II, which served for years in the hands of the Steel Talons before being phased out in favour of the less expensive Predator Tank.

Hundreds of Titans were relegated to the status of ‘mothballs’, left to gather dust in GDI warehouses. Some were even converted into heavy industrial machinery, fitted with excavators or cranes to assist with construction in the Blue Zones. But the greying veterans of the Steel Talons still had many fond memories of this trusty war machine. For years, they pleaded for the Titans to be brought back into service, to no avail. It was ultimately the development of the Crawlers that tipped the balance in their favour. The GDI needed to deploy powerful Laser Turrets to penetrate the heavy armour of the Noddi Crawlers, and these weapons had to be deployed quickly, so the Titans were retrieved from storage and refurbished with a number of upgrades that could be easily fitted. The Titan is back on the battlefield!

Since then, the Titan has found a new lease of life on the front lines. They are generally deployed to attack the Brotherhood’s Crawlers with armour-piercing lasers, but they find themselves in many other combat scenarios, including engaging other Nod units such as aerial targets, like the Basilisk and the Gorgon. It has finally earned its place alongside the Mammoth Tank in the GDI’s roll of honour.

Battlefield Specifications

The Eagle’s Claw In the early 21st century, the Titan was developed as an alternative to the GDI’s main battle tank. No expense was spared, with the use of cutting-edge technology and a frame forged from the world’s most durable materials. The result was a powerful, yet costly, armoured walker. Many of the early commanders of the Steel Talons were former ‘Titan Jockeys’, so it was only natural that they should spearhead the development of the Titan Mk. II when the time came.Walking Tall The Titan utilises a complex array of alloy struts, High Technology servomotors and fibre-reinforced tendons that enable the heavily armoured legs to move swiftly. The materials required to build this system are expensive, but the Titan is capable of moving quickly enough to keep pace with most tracked vehicles. The legs are able to stabilise the crew and Power Plant compartments whilst supporting the weight of over 20 tonnes of armour. The elevated turret provides a better vantage point for the crew and gives the gunner a clear view of the terrain. This is particularly important when the Titan is hunting down roving Nod Crawlers.History of Violence

For its first deployment, the Titan was equipped with an anti-tank gun, much like its predecessor. The Titan did not take part in the Third Tiberium War, but was eventually brought back into service as a heavy weapons platform. GDI engineers discovered that the robust internal frame was not only well-suited to the use of a heavy Laser Turret, but could also easily accommodate a variety of other upgrades. Over time, the Titan Mk. II has been fitted with high-capacity capacitors for the main laser, high-quality beam emitters to boost power, and drivetrain components for increased speed. Recent models even feature a second heavy Laser Turret, which will cement the Titan’s place as one of the most versatile weapon platforms in history.
