Background

At the start of the 21st century, Nod developed an artificial intelligence so advanced that it almost succeeded in conquering the world in Kane’s absence. CABAL posed such a threat to humanity that both the GDI and Nod decided to join forces to defeat this scourge. The successful alliance against CABAL would later serve as a crucial argument in Kane’s plan to once again unite Nod and the GDI under the banner of peace, this time to build a Tiberium control network that could save the Earth from certain ecological devastation.

Whilst CABAL’s cores have been destroyed, its advances in computer and cybernetic technologies have remained largely intact. Finding himself with millions of followers but poorly trained Soldiers, Kane began to fall behind in the war of attrition against the GDI’s superior military organisation. Kane resumed CABAL’s cybernetic research and succeeded in repairing the shattered bodies of his minions who had fallen in battle, naming them the Marked of Kane. From that point on, the Marked of Kane have featured prominently in Kane’s strategic manoeuvres.

The Cyborg Commandos are the most powerful of Nod’s cybernetic forces. They are capable of wielding powerful weapons, they have enhanced armour made from alloys derived from Scrin technology, and, above all, they are determined to fight regardless of the damage they sustain. They lead from the front, often attacking the most powerful target first, and follow Kane’s orders. Certain operations require greater subtlety; in such cases, the Commandos are equipped with stealth generators and deployed behind enemy lines, often with the aim of destroying unprotected installations before security forces have a chance to react. Even if they are severely damaged in combat, they are able to drag themselves forward and commandeer enemy vehicles, often for transport and weapons, when their own bodies fail them. Thanks to these formidable abilities, it is no surprise that the mere sight of a single Cyborg Commando on the battlefield sends most Soldiers fleeing, as they would rather face a court-martial for desertion than face certain death.

Battlefield Specifications

More machine than man They are among the very few Soldiers whose cybernetic bodies are destroyed in combat time and time again, allowing them to learn more from their experiences. The cost of connecting the brain to a new body is high, which gives the commando both his madness and his zeal. The Cyborg Commando is equipped with the weapons befitting a front-line warrior, including the OL-71 ‘Pilum’ laser. This weapon is directly linked to the Commando’s base power, bypassing the charging time required by other laser weapons. This allows the Commando to be astonishingly fast, often striking before enemy forces can react to defend themselves.Lone Wolf Although they represent the pinnacle of military technology, Commandos are also self-reliant, loyal and efficient. Very often, they are cut off from the world around them, as they lose their senses of taste, smell and touch when their nervous system is replaced by a computerised fibre-optic network. Often unable to recount their experiences to other human beings, even their own comrades-in-arms, Commandos operate alone, and are therefore well-suited to deep-strike operations. By connecting a miniature stealth generator to their specially designed souls, Cyborg Commandos can slip into Sleeper Ambushes or support other Nod operations behind enemy lines, even if the task requires months without food, water or sleep.Unstoppable

Cyborg Commandos are created from Soldiers who have fallen in battle more than once, thereby proving they have the will to press on regardless of the damage inflicted on their bodies. This inner strength, combined with cutting-edge cybernetic technology, enables the Commandos to continue operating even when they have been severely damaged in combat. Capable of crawling forward, using all their remaining limbs, after sustaining combat damage, the Commandos advance relentlessly towards enemy lines. The mere sight of them is enough to unsettle even the most seasoned Soldiers and instantly boost the morale of friendly troops. Upon reaching an enemy vehicle, the Commando can use his superhuman strength to rip open the hatch and eliminate the crew. Once inside the cockpit, he can immediately activate his hijacking system to take control of the vehicle and turn it against his allies.
