Command & Conquer: Red Alert, released in 1996 and also known simply as “Red Alert”, was conceived as a prequel to Tiberian Dawn whilst awaiting the release of Command & Conquer 2. Its huge success led to the creation of a standalone series based on the consequences of time travel against the backdrop of the Cold War.

Albert Einstein travels back in time to erase Adolf Hitler from history… and unwittingly hands Europe over to Stalin’s greed. The Allied Forces face off against the Soviet Union in an alternate-history war that will lay the temporal foundations for the entire saga.
After the Second World War, Albert Einstein develops a space-time machine called the ‘Chronosphere’ and uses it to travel back in time. He thus tracks down Adolf Hitler in 1924 upon his release from prison following his attempted coup. Using a miniaturised device, he makes him vanish and returns to 1946.
As envisaged, the Second World War does not break out, but Joseph Stalin’s Soviet Union becomes extremely powerful. The absence of Nazi Germany allows the USSR to annex territories in Eastern Europe, with the aim of realising Stalin’s dream of controlling the entire continent.
The European nations form a joint force, ‘The Allies’, to halt the Soviet advance.
