Tips
I – Tiberium
As Tiberium is your only source of income, monitor and rapidly expand your Tiberium harvest by building Tiberium Refineries and Harvesters. Don’t hesitate, moreover, to build your Tiberium Refineries as close as possible to the Tiberium fields. Furthermore, if you’re playing as the GDI and have Orcas, bear in mind that the AI won’t send troops to avenge a harvester destroyed by helicopters, but watch out for SAM Sites.
II – Sandbags:
Sandbags are a weak point in Command and Conquer’s AI, because if you block passages far enough away from your base with these structures, your enemies (the computer) won’t attempt to destroy them and will therefore remain stuck. Furthermore, you can build structures next to any of your sandbags.
III – Engineers:
They are a key part of your strategy, as one Engineer is equivalent to one building. What’s more, they can also capture a Chinook Transport by walking inside it.
IV – The two endings with the GDI:
Have you seen the two possible endings with the GDI: the normal ending and the ending with the Ion Cannon (to see this ending, you must complete the Temple of Nod using the Ion Cannon; in which case you’ll see a longer cutscene than the standard ending (the ceiling doesn’t collapse on Kane…)).
V – Funpark:
To play these missions, you must have ‘Survival Operations’. Add ‘funpark’ after C&C (e.g. C:....exe funpark). This works with both the DOS and Windows versions. You’ll then have missions against prehistoric beasts with the Nod-GDI coalition – good luck...
VI – Other Tips:
- How do you get lots of Mini-Gunners? Build a Guard Tower or an Advanced Guard Tower (for Nod: Turret or Obelisk of Light). Follow these steps carefully: sell it and, whilst it’s dematerialising, click on the tower and press “S”. There you go – you’ve cancelled the sale of the Guard Tower, but you’ve managed to get some Minigunners! You can repeat this as many times as you like!
- The Commando is a formidable weapon, but the slight problem with him is when he opens his mouth to spout rubbish! The enemy hears him! So, they become suspicious! If you want to move the Commando without the other player noticing, go to the control panel and turn the volume down to the minimum. Both computers will be as quiet as the grave. Move your Commando to where you want him to be and, quickly, turn the volume back up to normal.
- 1,000,000 Commandos: how do you do it? Build a Commando and click on him like mad! He’ll start spouting nonsense and your opponent will eventually get worried. He’ll build Guard Towers and won’t have a very big army. Cut off their power with a Nuclear Missile Strike – NO POWER = DEFEAT.
- Stealth Tank. If your enemy’s daft enough to leave infantry defenceless, take a Stealth Tank and gently crush them!
- Destroy a Construction Centre in one go! If you fire when it opens, it’ll be completely destroyed.
