C&C: Tiberian Dawn

Command & Conquer : Conflit du Tibérium (Tiberian Dawn)

Game Overview

Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, released in 1995 and also known simply as ‘Command & Conquer’, helped to popularise the real-time strategy genre and set its standards.

Universe & Lore

A meteorite crashes near the River Tiber and releases an extraterrestrial substance: Tiberium. As this crystal spreads across the Earth, two forces clash for control of it: the Global Defence Initiative (GDI), mandated by the United Nations, and the mysterious Brotherhood of Nod led by the charismatic Kane. The founding game of the saga, and of modern real-time strategy.

At the end of the 20th century, the impact of a meteorite near the River Tiber in Italy releases an extraterrestrial substance known as Tiberium. Thanks to its unique ability to draw minerals and nutrients from the soil and form crystals on the surface, Tiberium becomes highly sought after.

An ancient secret society known as the Brotherhood of Nod and its charismatic leader Kane appear to have foreseen these upheavals: they soon control half the world’s supply of Tiberium and use it to fund terrorism across the globe.

The ensuing wave of attacks prompts the United Nations Security Council to deploy its military arm, the GDI (Global Defence Initiative), to halt Nod’s advance.
