Garrisonable structures:

Urban combat is both tricky and dangerous. When fighting in towns, do your best to minimise casualties. Station garrisonable structures in civilian buildings to ensure the safety of your troops and earn rewards, including significant defensive bonuses. Buildings provide cover for your infantry units and allow them to fire at external targets without being exposed. Units garrisoned in buildings are safe from armed vehicles. That said, be wary of enemy units tasked with clearing garrisonable structures, particularly if they are armedwith grenades or flamethrowers. Remember that if you find yourself exposed in the middle of a firefight, you should station your troops in a Garrisonable Structure.

Transport Request:

As soon as an outpost has an airfield, GDI vehicles and infantry can call on a Troop Crawler at almost any time. If a unit requests transport from the battlefield, an RDRV Ox V-3S will fly out to collect it. Once the destination has been communicated to the Ox’s crew, it will transport the unit and drop it off at the desired location. However, you should be aware that units are highly vulnerable whilst in flight, as the Ox is a prime target for any enemy unit with anti-air capabilities.

Supply Crates: Lucky Targets:

Both the GDI and Nod rely on mobility and rapid deployment. The armies seem to be constantly on the move, as the balance of power can shift very quickly. The speed at which these operations are conducted explains why there is so much abandoned equipment. Consequently, our blue and yellow zones are dotted with logistics crates full of spare parts, data, materials and various supplies. Both sides use standard G-771G modular containers, which have been in use for many years in the shipping industry. You’ll find these containers everywhere; they represent potential opportunities for our men. If they open any containers they come across, they might find something useful inside. G-771G containers are easy to spot – just look out for the grey, striped, box-shaped crates. It’s impossible to walk past them without noticing them. What’s more, it only takes a bit of elbow grease to open them.
The hunt is on.

Research into liquid Tiberium:

Nod’s conversion of a new form of Tiberium into a weapon.
A GDI task force uncovered a research programme into Tiberium weapons developed by the Nod during an operation at what was believed to be a chemical weapons factory. Scientific carried out on the rubble confirmed that several Tiberium weapons had been tested there. The intelligence is all the more worrying given that significant progress has been made towards creating a liquid Tiberium weapon ofdevastating power. Tiberium in liquid form is a recent manifestation of the alien substance, the properties of which are still poorly understood. Nod’s research into liquid Tiberium is five to ten years ahead of that of our scientists.
There is every reason to believe that Nod is also working on the development of an explosive based on Tiberium anda catalyst that would trigger a subcritical explosion of crystalline Tiberium.
Analysis of Nod’s R&D work (which is repetitive and independent of one another) shows that this laboratory based in Africa is not the only one attempting to turn Tiberium into a weapon.

Nod Aviation:

Guide to Nod’s Air Force in the theatres of war of the Third Tiberium War
Nod’s air force has evolved considerably since the Second Tiberium War. It now comprises the Venom reconnaissance ADAV (pictured below), the Vertigo Bomber, a Carryall capable of carrying troops and equipment, and a long-range Bomber called the Armageddon Bomber, which flies at high altitude. Whilst the Venom is as lightly armed as it is lightly armoured, it can engage a wide range of targets, both air and ground, and holds its own to our Orcas in aerial combat. The Vertigo evades most GDI sensors and only appears to attack our structures and vehicles. Nod’s Carryall is theequivalent to our Ox V-35, an ADAV capable of picking up and transporting a wide variety of troops and equipment.
The Armageddon, for its part, rarely appears on the battlefield, but when it does, it bodes ill for us. Nod’s Armageddon is an aircraft equipped with Cluster Mines and numerous air-to-ground weapons.

Nod’s new Flame Tank:

Nod deploys a new instrument of terror
Nod has a new version of the classic anti-infantry system, the Flame Tank. This new model is equipped withheavy armour and a Turret that allows for greater firing accuracy. Its two Flamethrowers can be operated for extended periods without refuelling. It replaces the old ‘Devil’s Tongue’" used during the 2nd GT.
The Flame Tank eliminates all infantry units and clears garrisonable structures with formidable efficiency. Intelligence advises using the Flame Tank alongside armoured vehicles or aircraft equipped with cannons or rockets. The crew compartments of armoured vehicles protect the men from the chaos caused by the flamethrowers.

Seize Tiberium Silos:

Tiberium silos
Most blue and yellow zones are dotted with tall cylindrical structures known as Tiberium silos. These automated extraction platforms extract Tiberium from underground deposits and refine it. The Tiberium is then ready for use. Feel free to requisition Tiberium silos to meet the needs of your forward bases. Deploy a Combat Engineer to a Tiberium reserve to channel resources to your base’s production structures.
In return, offer the silo owners some GDI vouchers which they can convert into resources in Reykjavik.
The extraction rate of the silos depends on the size and nature of the underlying Tiberium deposits, and the flow of resources varies accordingly.

EMP Control Centre:

Electro-Magnetic Pulse Control Centre
You should remain on thelook out for the four cylindrical towers of the EMP Control Centre. These odd-looking structures were erected in Fauna and Blue zones over the past few decades to keep Nod at bay. Back then, a team of volunteers would rush to the EMP Control Centre as soon as the civil defence sirens civil defence sirens wailed. They would fire from the IEM and drive the attackers back. As Nod’s activity has dwindled, almost all the centres have been abandoned and are now used by the GDI and Nod as and when required. Deploy a Combat Engineer to an IEM control centre to capture it and use it against enemy forces.

Cairo Nuclear Launch Site:

Intelligence flash report
Attack on the Philadelphia directed from Nod’s nuclear launch site in Cairo Intelligence confirms that the missile used against the Philadelphia was launched froman underground silo linked to the nuclear launch site that Nod operates in Cairo. Prior to the attack on the Philadelphia, satellite imagery was unable to detect this site as most of the structures are underground or concealed. Since the start of the 3rd GT, Nod has removed the structures that concealed its buildings and installed other visible elements to facilitate its launch operations. The underground silo from which the fatal strike against the Philadelphia was launched is inactive. Nod now conducts its operations froma central platform capable of launching attacks at much shorter intervals.

Nod’s nuclear arsenal:

Intelligence flash report
Nod has bolstered its nuclear arsenal at the nuclear power plant it owns in Cairo. What was once merely a mobile nuclear force has become a major centralised arsenal. The reason for this centralisation of Nod’s nuclear capabilities is unknown. Possible explanations include paranoia (Kane is said to fear that his officers might rebel and use nuclear weapons against his supporters), preparations for a covert operation, or a reorganisation to improve efficiency. In short, we are certain of only one thing: the Cairo site must be destroyed to deprive Nod of its nuclear capabilities.

Energy management:

‘Message to follow’
Emergency Engineering Report by Warrant Officer S. Bowen
GDI Forward Base “Echo-2”, Croatia
Operation Bowen: the Power Plants are down and our network of bases is compromised as there isn’t enough power to keep everything running at once. To keep these defences operational, you must switch off everything that is non-essential. If you deactivate half of the base’s defences, we should be able to power the other half. If an active defence is taken out, it no longer requires power. You can activate another one. You may-you may also need to deactivate inactive defences to power the cannons and Turrets under direct threat. To survive, you need to know how to manage your energy supply.

Nod’s Ion Cannon deflection:

Ion Cannon deflection technology deployed by Nod
The orbital combat stations housing the GDI’s Ion Cannons were disabled during the attack on the Goddard Space Centre. Repairs have been completed and the Ion Cannons are operational once more. However, certain targets remain inaccessible as they are protected by Nod’s new device: the Ion Cannon Deflector. They have erected several of these structures at various locations.
Be wary of these structures and this Ion Cannon deflection technology. Neutralise the deflectors using conventional weapons, then order an Ion Cannon strike.

Nod Avatar Warmech:

Powerful, resilient, effective and terrifying: such is the Nod Avatar Warmech.
Nod has outpaced the GDI in the development of mechanised combat armour. GDI engineers are still struggling with numerous problems. It is rumoured that Nod stole the GDI’s original blueprints, then forged ahead in other areas to accelerate the development of new prototypes. Despite its dishonesty, it must be acknowledged that Nod’s research and development efforts have yielded results at a dizzying pace. They now possess a highly advanced bipedal robot equipped with a wide array of weapons. The Avatar Warmech is a highly versatile, all-terrain armed platform. It is fully armoured and equipped with a powerful laser. It can even be fitted with a Flamethrower, a Particle Cannon, a stealth detector or a Stealth Generator.

Sonic Weapons and the Invader Fighters:

Effects of sonic weapons on the Invader Fighters
According to Dr Elien Schwartzberg, a Field Medic on the front line. 21st Armoured Division.
It hardly needs saying, but the sight of Munich covered in ash and littered with corpses in the wake of the alien invasion leaves little room for hope. Yet despite everything, whilst my team was secretly scouring the outskirts of the ruined city in search of survivors, we stumbled upon a glimmer of hope.
Whilst crossing the wasteland during our night watch, we found the survivors of a GDI squadron from the 76th Mechanised Brigade, apparently safe and sound following a rescue operation that had saved several VIPs crucial to the war effort. Whilst talking to them, it became clear to us that the reason for their survival was in fact down to the intervention of an unexpected defensive measure: sonic emissions.
I quote, from the digital recording in our possession...
“We kept firing, but those bloody metal things just kept coming, walking right over their dead as if nothing had happened. And then, just as I thought we were done for for good, just as those bloody creatures were closing in on us, our engineers found a way to get the old Munich sonic emitter back up and running. And that’s when BOOM! The sonic attacks blew those damned Invader Fighters to smithereens like soap bubbles. Bloody hell, it was a sight to behold...”, Sergeant Arnold P. Coddington, 3rd Squadron, Charlie Company, 76th Mechanised Infantry Division.
It would therefore appear that the Sonic Emitters, which we traditionally use to control and regulate the growth of Tiberium in blue zones, are capable of inflicting significant damage on our new enemies. We need to carry out further investigations before we can determine why. Is the structure of the Aliens similar to that of crystal? Why have they come all this way? For the moment, all we know is that the sonic emissions cause significant damage to the Aliens. Make them suffer.
Ultimately, hope shines upon us once more.

Origins of the Aliens, link to the Tacitus:

Results of the preliminary investigation into the origin of the Invader Fighters
R&D Division
Attn: Commander
Origins of the Aliens - Links to the Tacitus
GDI’s scientific teams have been compiling all data transmissions and physical evidence of the alien presence since the start of the invasion. Analysis of the data transmitted by the Aliens has revealed a link between the Tacitus seized from Kane and the Invader Fighters. The transmissions from the Invader Fighters that we have recorded appear to follow the same route as that described in the Tacitus. All the evidence suggests that they are therefore Scrins or, at any rate, a faction of the Scrins. Following in-depth examinations, it is clear that this invading force exhibits undeniable physical and linguistic differences from the alien species that brought us the Tacitus. Perhaps they have forged links from afar, or is there a common thread running through their respective cultures?
One of the transmissions has been decoded using our most advanced decryptor. It appears that the alien protagonist was addressing another race of aliens with whom he was already familiar. We were unable to translate the other alien’s words, but the decoder recognised the terms ‘Brother’, ascension, enemy and Scrin. This adds to our confusion regarding the nature of the Invader Fighters, as they havecountless similarities with those we call the Scrins. They are undoubtedly not the alien race that brought the Tacitus to Earth, but the connection is undeniable.
If we are correct, the Tacitus becomes our number one military asset. We must uncover its secrets at all costs.
GDI Intelligence Flash Report – Dr R. Bass, Director of Extraterrestrial Research

Captured tripod:

Armed Invader Fighter robot activated and deployed by GDI forces
Frontline forces in Europe have succeeded in capturing and reactivating an alien tripod. A commando unit in direct contact with the enemy deactivated the tripod using an explosive charge attached to its legs. GDI forces arrived immediately at the scene and established a security perimeter around the immobilised alien war machine. Once the area was secured, an engineer went to the site to repair the robot’s leg and reactivate it. Initial reports indicate that the engineer has managed to establish rudimentary communication with the robot’s control unit using decryption programmes similar to those of the Tacitus, the alien artefact that the GDI had decoded some time ago.

Alien Mastermind:

New alien military unit named by the GDI: Master
We thought we were safe on the other side of the chasm, but we were wrong. The alien Mastermind, an enemy Commando, had the power to teleport forces across the void and, thereby jeopardising our entire operation. The Aliens could maintain the pressure with a minimum number of units if they used their Stasis Chamber and the Mastermind’s powers wisely. We believe the Mastermind possesses powers other than teleportation, but we have not been able to witness them first-hand.
If the Masters are deployed on the battlefield, you must eliminate them first. As they provide an invaluable source of mobility for the Invader Fighters, you must make them your priority targets. The alien Masters negate the advantage of terrain: because of them, nowhere is safe.
Battle report – Sergeant Major E.H. Jarvis, 1st Expeditionary Corps

Alien Rift Generator:

Rift Generator update
The Rift Generator renders all our equipment predating the Ion Cannon obsolete. Evidently, it can open a Portal and eject into outer space anything caught in the field thathas formed. Our most robust structures have withstood its attacks, but the Rift Generator’s devastating capabilities are comparable to those of an Ion Cannon or a Nod Nuclear Missile Silo.
Dr Gordon Malou, Intelligence

Alien Control Node:

The alien control node at Point Zero is a unique structure that appears to transmit a form of Tiberium-based radiation to the extraterrestrial forces. The control node’s emissions propagate easily through all manner of matter, much like neutrinos, and this structure is fully capable of transmitting this mysterious radiation to all alien units and terrestrial structures. In fact, this control node could easily spread a uniform blanket of radiation as far as the moon. What is this radiation and why is it necessary? Is it a source of energy? Of communication? Of synchronisation? Of coordination and control? Isdoes it produce a substance essential to the alien machines or to the organic matter they contain? We cannot answer any of these questions, but we are convinced that this control node is the aliens’ Talon. If you neutralise this control node, the invasion could come to a halt very quickly.

The Phantom in the Machine:

Extract from the holographic briefing of 28 May 2043
One of the most surprising chapters in the Second Tiberium War nearly unfolded yesterday, when the GDI Corps of Engineers blew up what appears to be the Cabal’s last pillbox (an underground cylindrical lair in whichartificial intelligence briefly waged war against humanity).
When asked to share his thoughts, the former war hero and Director of the Mutant Affairs Bureau, General Paul Cortez-praised for his role in Cabal’s downfall-described his former adversary asan “EVA knock-off with a goatee, suffering from a Napoleon complex.” Cortez also stated that he had declined the GDI’s invitation to witness the explosion, in order to signal his opposition to the controversial Tiberium containment policy advocated by the current authorities, as well as their “cowardly” stance towards the Brotherhood of Nod.
Rumours that the pillbox housed evidence of human or humanoid life forms in suspended Drop Pods have been formally denied by the GDI spokesperson, Arlene Shepherd...

Production of the Mammoth Mk II halted:

Extract from the holographic briefing of 12 March 2039
Many are sad today as the last Mammoth Mk. II to fulfil its military duties has just rolled out of our San Pedro Weapons Factory and made history. With its twin EM cannons, combat prowess and compact design, the Mk. II had become a symbol of freedom during the Second Tiberium War. The discontinuation of its production has been very poorly received, particularly by Captain Nick “Havoc” Parker, a former war hero and conservative politician, an outspoken proponent of the theory that ‘Kane is alive’. ‘The Mark II was, and still is, one of our most powerful tools against Nod’s Fanaticism. The end of its production is yet another example of the liberalism of this bureaucratic, stingy and whingeing… Once again, the GDI is playing right into Kane’s hands."
With protests taking place in the containment zones, thousands of kilometres away, the workers themselves seemed more resigned than angry. The controversial Mark III, with its four all-terrain tracks, is to be manufactured near Reykjavik, and many in San Pedro are worried about their jobs and the future of their community...

The blunder that nearly wiped out the GDI:

W3N report based on William Frank’s diary
“…we believed that our space stations and Ion Cannons were our most reliable military assets. That is why we had sent our most valiant army, our most advanced systems and our most powerful weapons into space. We could not have imagined that our space capabilities would be vulnerable, and that because of a poorly protected facility ON EARTH. The Nod exploited the breach at the worst possible moment, whilst all our political and military leaders were aboard the Philadelphia. It is an unspeakable outrage.
But the worst thing is that journalists from W3N investigated and discovered that, whilst we had installed our R-SAT command systems on the ground at the Goddard Space Centre, it was primarily for economic reasons. Just for the IT equipment and the crew. SpaceCom would have had to build a new orbital platform, which would have cost a fortune. It’s a scandal. Space security was nothing but an illusion. Not to mention that the GDI nearly disappeared over a money-grabbing scheme..."

Kane’s fascination with Eastern Europe:

Extract from W3N’s special report on Kane
"...why is Kane so keen to rebuild everything in Eastern Europe? Why is he fascinated by Sarajevo? Eastern Europe has been a focal point of Nod’s activities for decades, and we still don’t know why...”

GDI storm shelters:

Extract from the GDI Emergency Procedures Manual – Protocol for Storm Shelters GDI storm shelters are located throughout the blue zones, as well as in certain operational parts of the yellow zones. They are generally found near urban centres and government facilities. The first Foxholes were built after an ionic storm decimated urban centres, claiming, amongst others, the famous Or. Mobius and his team. The storm Foxholesare generally situated between 10 and 30 metres underground, but at least 70 metres from the water table or the nearest underground Tiberium deposit. Their walls are made of very thick reinforced concrete and are fitted with Sonic Emitters that prevent Tiberium from spreading too close. More recent foxholes include dormitories, canteens, infirmaries, car parks, long-life power generators andadditional sonic emitters. In high-risk areas, some foxholes have even become centres of social activity, combining sporting events with artistic performances and concerts. They have nicknames such as ‘Sector R’, ‘Vieille Bleue’ or ‘La Couvée’.
In recent years, numerous private organisations have set up a growing number of smaller-scale shelters for businesses and private individuals, at exorbitant rates. Some of these private shelters are connected to those of the GDI via underground tunnels. Private individuals whose tunnels provide access to public shelters are required by law to allow free access to those in need of assistance during a Class C emergency or higher.
NOTE: When you land in an unfamiliar Blue or Yellow zone, never forget to note the locations of the nearest storm shelters. You can easily identify them as they bear the insignia of the

Alien tower destroyed! :

News update: the GDI has taken down the alien tower in Rome
Today we witnessed the destruction of a large alien tower in one of the most dangerous hotspots on our planet. The success of this mission shows us that we must remain optimistic and that the GDI is capable of repelling the Invader Fighters once and for all. However, the question remains: what was the purpose of this tower?(195, 195, 195);">Alien towers have been constructed in 19 red zones. It is unclear exactly what purpose they serve, but their location at the heart of these Tiberium-infested red zones suggests they are linked to the crystalline substance. The fact that the Aliens have retreated to their towers signals a military realignment or a tactical shift on their part.
Whilst GDI scientists would like to carry out a thorough analysis of the towers, the military are calling for their immediate destruction. If the GDI takes down the remaining 18 towers as quickly as the one in Rome, we will never know what these towers were intended for.

Nod’s stealth technology:

Intelligence alert: ‘Know your enemy’
Nod’s next-generation stealth technology poses a major threat.
During the First Tiberium War, their scientists developed a camouflage device to be fitted to vehicles – a Stealth Generator that creates an energy field capable of refracting light around an object in order to render it invisible to both the naked eye and radar. Nod first tested this technology on its infamous Stealth Tank. The GDI eventually developed sensors and Countermeasures to neutralise this system, but Nod always had a, and the ‘stealth race’ has continued to advance ever since. Nod’s new stealth technology allows a large number of their vehicles and units to remain undetectable by the 601’s current sensors. Nod’s Shadow Teams therefore have a significant advantage over our forces. The Nod is far ahead of the GDI in everything to do with stealth and the means to counter it. You should be aware that our latest G-Tech sensors can detect the Nod’s Shadow Teams. Unfortunately, their usenot yet very widespread. Only Pitbull reconnaissance vehicles, Orca aircraft fitted with Sensor Pods, and our base defences are equipped with these advanced sensors. Shadow Teams are capable of maintaining their stealth field, whether stationary or on the move. But as soon as they go on the offensive, their stealth is deactivated and they become detectable. According to some reports, Nod has created a stealth Disruption Tower capable of projecting a field large enough to cover several units, or even structures. It is inconceivable that Nod could camouflage an entire base.

Nod base defences:

ECAP intelligence alert: ‘Know your enemy’
Nod base defences
Warning: Nod has begun deploying new defences with unique properties for their base. Each defence consists of four components: a central element and three turrets deployed around it (the centre is the heart of the defence system and controls the three turrets surrounding it). The centre can repair and even rebuild the three turrets at its disposal. To neutralise these new defences, you must therefore target the centre. This is the only way to disable the entire structure for good. You should also be aware, Commander, that there are three different variants of these new defences: anti-tank, anti-infantry and anti-aircraft. The anti-tank defences are equipped with lasers, the Anti-Air Turrets fire surface-to-air missiles, whilst anti-infantry turrets fire powerful bursts of bullets, much like rifles.

GDI Reconnaissance – The Fall of Cologne:

Statement by the Commander of the GDI Guard, explaining in detail the alien invasion of Cologne
“Frankly, even after the Munich incident, we didn’t think Cologne would be attacked like this. Ever since we’ve been running simulations (since 2038, I believe). Cologne was never considered a strategic target. We thought the Aliens felt the same way... but we were wrong. By the time we detected the first wave, it was already too late to mount anything other than a rudimentary defence. Luckily, we’d spent the day evacuating civilians... But, as a result, we hadn’t built any additional defensive structures, let alone devised a strategy. It all happened so fast: those planes… or rather, those infernal shuttles hurtling down faster than lightning and slaughtering half our troops beforewe’d had time to fire… We scattered to take refuge in buildings we hoped were sturdy enough to withstand the attacks for a while. Then, the power went out; we had no means of communication or Radar Upgrade... In short, no chance whatsoever of retaking the city.
For a split second, everything came to a standstill. A sort of laser-like noise, a scream, some radio static... Suddenly, a huge green flash streaked across the sky and the silence was shattered by a deafening explosion. My heart stopped: those vile creatures had ripped out every single Tiberium silo, without exception... our plan for reconquest, those long years of work… all wiped out. In the space of a few seconds… a gigantic field of Tiberium appeared in the centre of Germany.
Then their ground units landed.... Giant robots and small Disintegrators destroyed our tanks, whilst swarms of robotic insects wiped out our infantry.
I gave the order to retreat, grabbed my weapon and ran...”

GDI Report – The Fall of Bern:

Statement from a civilian witness providing a detailed account of the alien invasion of Bern
“I was on my way home when the evacuation order was given. Car horns, sirens, TV… Even the billboards and road signs were telling us to leave the city. I rang my wife… well, I tried to, but the network was down. No dial tone, just static on the line. We lived in the city centre, in staff accommodation. I’d gone to check on the progress of the anti-Tiberium wall in the east. From theother side of the city. Ten minutes later, I’d abandoned my car and was running. Less than ten minutes after the announcement, traffic jams had formed at every exit from the city – it was absolute chaos. And a few seconds later, as I ran past a holographic kiosk that was still broadcasting images, I could see the carnage: the dead, the fire...
(the character clutches his head with both hands and mumbles inaudible words for 48 seconds)
…So, I’m running and I start to hear this faint humming. At first I think it’s some sort of system that’s just been blown up. It’s not that, it’s something else. Like a machine, but alive, it seems. The sound grows louder, I feel as though my eardrums are going to burst before my legs give way… The sky darkens, the city walls are crumbling – those walls I had built myself… and then, there are those things in the sky...
(the character clutches his head with both hands and mumbles inaudible words for 32 seconds)
...which light up, all in blue... These living machines. I’m running, I’m running. My lungs are burning, I’ve got a stitch, but I’m getting closer to the city. There’s this thing in the sky, amongst the others. Bigger, noisier, like a huge ring spinning round a central body,a sort of control cabin. I’m too close to see properly, to understand how it works. It’s above me, above the centre of Bern, and it starts to light up, as if feeding on some sort of energy.
I lower my head and start running again. For a second, everything goes silent, as if the gigantic contraption had even swallowed up the sound travelling through the air. Then an unbearable, blinding light. I fall but shield my eyes. More light, more light, then silence. When I open my eyes… the centre of Bern has vanished. My staff accommodation along with it. Then nothing. Just a huge crater where a city once stood. And, in the centre, something blue… something blue and shimmering..."

Closure of GDI bases:

Taken from a press article dated 2043
...since 2043, the GDI has closed more than 60 per cent of its military bases worldwide, including those in North Carolina, Brazil and Eastern Europe. The last of these were closed due to the decline in Nod’s activities. Since Kane’s death, it seems the Brotherhood of Nod is falling apart...

Tiberium Guide:

Tiberium: a blessing or a curse?
Tiberium is a scientific curiosity, an immensely powerful resource, an unprecedented environmental catastrophe, a cause of war, and much more besides. Nothing we know of is comparable to this substance, which can be transformed at will.
We are almost certain that Tiberium is of extraterrestrial, rather than human, origin. After all, no trace of the substance had ever been recorded prior to its sudden appearance, half a century ago. Tiberium first appeared in an almost organic form, emerging from the ground like a plant, inside pods that emitted clouds of toxic gas. Over time, Tiberium has proven that it can evolve.
After 2047, Tiberium spread in the form most commonly seen today: a protonic lattice substance that transforms everything it touches into Tiberium, thereby triggering a process of radiation. Anything that comes into contact with it is transformed into Tiberium.
Is Tiberium preparing the Earth to host a form of alien life? Is it a weapon? A creature, of some sort? A form of consciousness might well reside within the crystalline reticulums – a crystalline quantum Mastermind whose intelligence would be proportional to its growth. Numerous theories debate what Tiberium is… and what it is doing here. In fact, its origins and purpose, if it has one, remain a mystery.
The GDI is still attempting to contain the spread of Tiberium. With the Tiberium infestation reaching critical levels and, worse still, even more dangerous variants emerging, the future of planet Earth began to look bleak in the mid-XXth century. Fortunately, the GDI found a weakness in the green crystal that they had begun to exploit. Engineers discovered the resonance frequency of Tiberium and created Sonic Emitters capable of shattering the Tiberium crystals.
Here is an advanced scientific analysis of this alien substance, intended for students, Engineers and scientists: the most recent form of Tiberium is a dense ‘protonic reticular substance’, bound together by heavy particles. When Tiberium comes into contact with another material, the heavy particles collide with the nuclei of that material, either shattering them (in the case of light nuclei) or producing further protons or nucleons (heavier nuclei) as a result of the impact. Tiberium captures some of the protons ejected during the collision process and incorporates them into its own structure. until the matter is transformed into Tiberium. If one of the heavy particles (a muon or a tauon) comes into contact with a nuclear nucleus, fission occurs, producing alpha, beta and gamma radiation, as well as other forms of electromagnetic radiation (such as infrared). During the transmutation process, the number of protons and neutrons in nuclei in contact with Tiberium may fluctuate (usually decreasing).

Red, yellow and blue zones:

The Tiberium Infestation has rendered 30 per cent of the planet completely uninhabitable. Vast swathes of the Earth’s surface have become ‘red zones’". These are desolate areas, ravaged by storms and buried under Tiberium. Venturing into these abandoned lands, or even approaching them, is extremely dangerous.
Beyond the red zones, Tiberium has also caused environmental damage of varying severity in 50 per cent of inhabited areas. In the yellow zones, which are ecologically compromised and ravaged by war, Tiberium fields are spreading, both in towns and across farmland, and subjugating the environment. Climate change caused by Tiberium has triggered an endless cycle of droughts and floods, accompanied by natural disasters such asCategory 6 hurricanes, tornadoes with wind speeds reaching up to 800 km/h, and storms of unprecedented violence. Particularly devastating ionic storms sometimes strike outside the red zones, wreaking havoc in neighbouring towns.
Only 20 per cent of the Earth’s surface remains in perfect condition. These blue zones have so far been spared by Tiberium and war. The population of the blue zones lives in relative tranquillity, sheltered in futuristic, high-tech cities nestled amidst wooded valleys or in rural settings, surrounded by pastures.

About the Brotherhood of Nod:

The GDI views the Nod as a dangerous, virulent and inexplicably autonomous Terrorist organisation. The Brotherhood of Nod, of course, has a different take on things. The Nod presents itself as the champion of change in a world in the midst of transitioning to a new era, representing the poor and the oppressed and acting as a counterweight to this GDI, which has never been challenged.
Nod possesses sufficient manpower, resources, organisation and military might to rise up against the GDI and declare all-out war on it. The Brotherhood of Nod, however, is not a territory. It is a mysterious hybrid organisation that combines the characteristics of a religious movement, a multinational corporation and a nation-state. Given the demands of modern warfare, particularly the staggering costs it entails on a large scale, Nod’s ability to fight the GDI on equal terms is astonishing.
It must be said that, every month, they recruit thousands of new members from among the distraught souls living near the red zones. They conduct their political, military and logistical operations from decentralised, dilapidated underground cities and outposts situated in decaying yellow zones. Whilst concealing an infrastructure as vast as it is sophisticated from the GDI, Nod has perfected the art of rapidly moving its forces and military assets over long distances whilst rendering them undetectable to the GDI’s satellites or next-generation sensors.
Nod’s central organisation is highly advanced but also comprises a significant guerrilla force, made up of recruits from the yellow zones who are as rigorously trained as they are poorly equipped. Nod’s combat forces rely as much on a rudimentary ‘militia’ as on a small number of Soldierswho are highly trained and equipped with the most advanced weapons and communication tools.
Whilst Nod’s military capabilities may seem experimental and exotic, their reliability is a cause for concern. Nod’s engineers at Nod will stop at nothing to improve the effectiveness of their weapons, even if it means sacrificing a few human lives in the process. The military equipment they develop runs on Tiberium. It is a potent but vulnerable arsenal, as deadly as it is unstable. The offensive weapons deployed on vehicles range from rockets and machine guns to flamethrowers and toxins, as well as lasers and nuclear weapons. Nod also possesses Tiberium-based weapons.

The Global Defence Initiative (GDI):

The International Defence Group (GDI) was originally a secret military alliance between several advanced nations, under the auspices of the United Nations. Its mission was to control Tiberium and halt its spread, whilst fighting the sinister Brotherhood of Nod.
Over time, power and sovereignty gradually passed into the hands of the GDI, and the national identities of its members faded. By 2047, this process had reached its final stage: although some member states remain technically independent, the reality is that the GDI has become a political and military superstate.
They thus control all areas up tothere that have been spared from the Tiberium Infestation. The crystalline alien substance is slowly taking over the rest of the planet. It is the cause of the environmental cataclysm that has rendered 30 per cent of the Earth uninhabitable and 50 per cent of the remainder fundamentally hostile to humansettlement of the population. The inhabited territories are the ‘blue zones’, spared not only by Tiberium but also by the war (unlike the ‘yellow zones’, which are ecologically degraded and ravaged by war, and the ‘red zones’, which are completely overrun by Tiberium Infestation).
The dispute between the GDI and the Nod has already escalated into a world war on two occasions: the First Tiberium War (1st TW) broke out whilst the two sides were not yet fully formed, and the Second Tiberium War followed several years later.

Health consequences of Tiberium contamination:

What are the risks if you are exposed to Tiberium? Nothing good. If you come into direct contact with Tiberium, the green substance will begin to fuse with your skin in under 20 seconds. You’ll feel an intense burning sensation, as if you’d touched a boiling pan or had acid pouredacid onto your skin. The infection will spread throughout your body if you are not treated immediately. Your flesh will turn green and begin to crystallise, and your vital organs will be affected as the Tiberium spreads through your body. If you inhale the crystal, it will settle in your lungs. You will no longer be able to produce oxygen as your lungs will have crystallised. You will cough up blood and eventually die.
For unknown reasons, a Tiberium infection sometimes results in a genetic mutation. You will not develop cancer, but something else. You will not die from it, but your body will undergo transformations. Our scientists are struggling to understand the mechanism behind this mutation.

Living in a yellow zone:

Tiberium contamination affects yellow zones both directly and indirectly. Climate change, ice from the Ice Age, the vagaries of the weather, the spread of Tiberium fields and decades of war are at the root of thesocial collapse experienced in the yellow zones. In the worst-affected regions, many towns fall prey to warlords and criminal organisations, or descend into anarchy. Some even fall into the hands of the Brotherhood of Nod.
Living in the most run-down Faune Zones is no picnic. You live in a dilapidated building with no running water. Electricity is available for a few hours a day, at irregular intervals. Food is scarce. Field Medics are even scarcer. Occasionally, aid workers from the preserved blue zones come to provide medical care or deliver food aid.
And this life of mere survival is just one aspect of the situation. Tiberium contamination is a reality; thousands die every year because of these microscopic crystals that mingle with fog, dust and other particles, and which people inhale against their will. Tiberium can even fall from the sky in the form of raindrops, provided a cloud has passed through a red zone during or after an Ionic storm, before moving into a yellow zone. Because of these appalling conditions, rain showers are met with a mixture of fear, apprehension and joy by the inhabitants of the yellow zones.
However, in these dangerous zones, Tiberium is not the only threat. When it isn’t harassing you, violent crimes, shoot-outs between warlords over a patch of land, or military clashes between the GDI and Nod may just as easily cost you your life.

GDI nuclear weapons:

The GDI still possesses a nuclear arsenal hidden in secret locations across the globe (including a nuclear base in the remote regions of Australia, well-protected silos in the yellow zones of North America, and other facilities). GDI leaders have pledged never to resort to nuclear weapons, even in desperate situations and despite the fact that Nod has developed its own nuclear capabilities. The GDI’s Nuclear Missile Silos are few in number but are kept alongside launch systems (even ICBMs) and are immediately operational, just in case… The period following the attack on Philadelphia, at the start of the Third Global War, nearly caused the GDI to change its mind. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of a nuclear strike remained to be assessed, given that Nod’s forces were scattered and some of their troops were located within the GDI’s blue zones. Some view the GDI’s promise with cynicism, as it was made just as the GDI was deploying a new, highly accurate weapon of mass destruction: the Ion Cannon.

What about the red zones? :

Extract from the “International Spelling Guide for Today’s World”
If you were able to wear a reinforced suit to venture into the red zones, you would see nothing but terrifying landscapes. The ground is nothingis nothing but a rocky plateau, parched, barren and strewn with veins of Tiberium, whose green glow does little justice to the devastation it causes. On the horizon, massive formations of pure Tiberium pile up on the ridges. These glacial Tiberium Crystals cast an emerald-green glowglow onto the surrounding land. Look up and you will see a cloudy, turbulent sky, filled with dancing shadows and flashes of lightning. If you wait a little longer, you will see an ionic storm forming and the lightning intensifying until it haunts thespace around you. Then, the immeasurable energy unleashedabove your head will crash down onto the ground in a terrifying, destructive whirlwind. These flashes of lightning are accompanied by a toxic tornado that ravages the desert landscape and sweeps up shards of Tiberium in its wake, at lightning speed.
The red zones are drawing closer to the surface of the alien world. Scientists believe that Tiberium is in fact the agent that is preparing our world to welcome an extraterrestrial civilisationand is slowly shaping it to make it hospitable for beings from another planet. But they have not reached any satisfactory conclusion.

Terrain in the Red Zone: Tiberium Pits:

Extract from the GDI’s military database on Red Zones
Red Zones are the most hostile areas on the planet. The abundance of Tiberium fields, toxic radiation, rugged terrain (including chasms and cliffs), severe weather and vast Tiberium glaciers all combine to make them your worst nightmares. On the other hand, given our resources and mobility, we have found that red zones do not completely jeopardise our combat capabilities. The following techniques have proven most effective during combat in red zones :
- Jumpjet Infantry: our Commando and Zone Troopers utilise GDI’s technological capabilities by flying over large swathes of hostile terrain;
- transport request: theunevenness of the terrain poses problems that can be resolved using the Ox V-35, which will come and retrieve the units;
- expansion of ground control: land control sometimes allows the construction zone to be extended beyond a chasm, meaning units can be produced on the other side. Furthermore, transporting Surveyor units across the chasm can enable you to build a base on the front line.
