The International Defence Group (GDI)

The International Defence Group, or GDI, is a politico-military organisation governing the last cities on Earth to have escaped the Tiberium in 2048. Known as Blue Zones, these account for 20 per cent of the Earth’s surface, whilst the eastern half of the globe consists of 50 per cent so-called Yellow Zones, where the majority of the world’s population lives in extreme conditions – drought, high levels of Tiberium, water shortages, looters… The remaining 30 per cent of the Earth’s surface consists of the Red Zones, which are inhospitable, riddled with crevasses, Tiberium-based life forms and ion storms. In these decisive times, having won the Second Tiberium War, the GDI has decided to focus its efforts on the elimination of Tiberium, leading to budget cuts in R&D programmes – such as walkers and anti-gravity vehicles – which have been replaced by simple tanks or wheeled vehicles.
