C&C: Renegade 2

Command & Conquer: Renegade 2 (annulé)

Game Overview

As a sequel to the FPS Renegade, Renegade 2 was intended to set the action in the Red Alert 2 universe, following the Soviet forces, before evolving into a bridge between the Red Alert and Tiberium universes. The project was cancelled in 2003 following the closure of Westwood Studios. Artwork, screenshots from the prototype and story elements have since surfaced, kept alive by the community.

Universe & Lore

"Renegade 2: Battlegrounds" was the Red Alert 2 version of the game Renegade and centred on multiplayer. You could build defences on designated Emplacements, destroy and rebuild buildings, and command units directly or indirectly. The storyline centred on a rebel Soviet Commander who launches an assault on the United States to avenge his family (he is a Romanov) following the defeat in Red Alert 2.

  • There was humour in the missions – for example, there was a mission in Idaho where you could fight atop a giant fake potato (the city’s symbol) and roll it onto your enemies.
  • ‘1941’ inspired the scenario featuring the giant Ferris wheel.
  • The giant ants made a comeback in another secret mission.
  • There was a whole sub-game involving spies who could steal enemy technologies and dogs to detect them.
  • Yes, you could play as a dog. You couldn’t communicate with your friends, but you could bark.
  • The first mission took place at Marin Headlands with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. The Kirovs were bombarding the city, whilst a Giant Squid attacked an Allied ship in the bay near your base. Absolutely epic!
