Altered Technology is a mod that adds Soviet units and ten missions. In this mod, the Soviets have a significant technological deficit and must steal technology from the Allies.

The story behind Altered Technology:

In early 1938, Professor Einstein travelled back in time to around 1922 and ‘eliminated’ an obscure house painter by the name of Adolf Hitler. In doing so, he inadvertently altered the future of the planet and, in the process, ALTERED TECHNOLOGY.

In the years that followed, the countries of the Soviet bloc, led by the Russians, became a world power. For many years, the Soviets attempted to reach an agreement with their capitalist adversaries, known as the Alliance and led by the Americans. This attempt proved futile and ultimately ended in tragedy for the planet.

Ultimately, the Soviets were cornered by the Americans and their European allies. They had no choice but to invade the United States, lest they face economic suicide and perhaps even extinction.

The war lasted for many years, with the Allies eventually emerging victorious.

Although many Soviet lives were lost, the ideals and objectives established by the founding Party did not disappear. After what seemed like centuries, the Communist Party finally regained power and set about rebuilding the country and shaking off the yoke of Allied oppression.

At first, the war went well for the Soviets. Battles were being won on all fronts and the Allies were gradually being forced into submission. Then it was discovered that the Allies had made a major scientific breakthrough in the fields of energy, space and time.

The war then began to turn against the Russians and the Confederation. They were facing invisible weapons and technology far more advanced than anything their own scientists and research centres were capable of conceiving.

This did not deter the Communist machine. It simply employed its excellent intelligence service and soon discovered what it needed to know.

It would appear that this strange scientist, Einstein, had used his machine to distort space-time - known as the Chronosphere by the Allied nations - to travel back to the early 1940s. Soviet spies caught him entering his laboratory, immediately after his return, carrying several large crates filled with diagrams. He was also in possession of several strange machines.

Shortly afterwards, the Soviet proletariat and the High Command decided that enough was enough. They had to capture a Chronosphere and send a team back in time to discover and seize exactly what Professor Einstein had obtained.

Little did they realise that their efforts would prove so successful and enable them to regain parity with the Alliance.

Thus began the war of…
